The Ministry of Health Smoking Cessation Training of Trainers supported by the World Bank Project for Health System Strengthening Program for Results.

The first training was conducted in Savai'i on Wednesday 2 - Thursday 3 September 2026 for doctors, nurses, health inspectors, and community nutritionists.

The second training was conducted in Upolu on Monday 7 - Tuesday 8 September 2026 for doctors, nurses, health inspectors, and community nutritionists.

The last training was conducted on Thursday 10 - Friday 11 September 2026 for stakeholders such as the Salvation Army, Samoa Red Cross Society, Samoa Family Health Association, Samoa District Development Authority, Samoa Fa'afafine Association, Nuanua o le Alofa, and Samoa National Youth Council.

These trainings were conducted by Technical Advisor Afioga Faumuina Maee Ualesi Falefa Silva and the Ministry of Health.

The main aim of these trainings is to ensure the Ministry of Health and stakeholders conduct smoking cessation services to support ongoing programs to reduce the impact of non-communicable diseases in Samoa.

The Public Health Services had the opportunity to come together and farewell our former Deputy Director General - Public Health Services, Afioga Auliaimalae Tagaloa Dr Robert Thomsen, as he closes an important chapter of his journey with the Ministry of Health.

Dr Thomsen joined the Ministry in 1997, and for the past 29 years, he has given his time, knowledge and experience in service to the Ministry and the people of Samoa.

🎗️ CERVICAL CANCER SCREENING – EARLY DETECTION SAVES LIVES 💗

Today, the Cervical Clinic team carried out a Cervical Cancer Screening outreach at the Public Service Commission (PSC) and the Samoa Qualification Authority (SQA), providing an important opportunity for women to access screening and take a proactive step towards protecting their health.

Cervical cancer is largely preventable, and regular screening can help detect changes early, before they develop into cancer. Early detection and timely treatment can save lives.

Ladies, your health matters. Your life matters. Don’t wait for symptoms. Get screened! 🎗️
