Kona Girl Wellness WHY THE NAME, "KONA GIRL WELLNESS?"

I wanted to share a bit of the story behind Kona Girl Wellness, a name that means a lot to me.

Uplift Your Soul, Free Your Mind, Love Your Body
Nutrition Consultant
Certified Stretch Coach, Tips on Fitness, Freeing your Mind and Finding your faith, Movement Is Health, Movement is Life - Get Moving!
Help save the turtles When I was picking a name for my nutrition and fitness journey, I wanted something that wasn’t just catchy but also captured my personal journey and the inspiration that

got me here. The whole thing started with my first experience watching the Kona Ironman. Seeing regular folks and top athletes alike giving everything they had to complete this insane race really hit me hard—especially the everyday people pushing through and crossing that finish line after 17 hours. That level of heart, grit, and determination sparked something in me. Back then, I never would’ve believed I could take on a triathlon, let alone do an Ironman distance. But over time, I trained, built up my strength, and—eventually—did it. It was a life-changer and showed me what we’re capable of when we really commit. I’ve also got a deep love for the ocean (and yes, sea turtles!), having lived most of my life near the beach. The ocean has always been a huge source of peace and joy for me, and combining that love with my passion for fitness is where Kona Girl Wellness was born. Kona Girl Wellness is my way of celebrating that journey—the spirit of the Kona Ironman and the magic of the ocean. My goal is to help others tap into that same strength and find their own path to health and happiness. We’re in this together, and I want to create a space where everyone feels encouraged to break barriers and find what’s possible for them. Let’s keep lifting each other up!

South Florida endurance training 😊

🥵yes it is very hot and humid. I might run as slow as molasses down here but this humidity will make me a stronger runner.

Thank you Carla and Jay for a wonderful dinner with Captain Greg, Chip, and Valerie. Dinner was delicious 🙂❤️

Yes, I will take running in humidity over running in the cold any day. It doesn’t mean that it’s not brutal. Today was a tough one.🥵

Since I’m staying with Jaime and Joe, having my bike here helped spark Joe to start riding again 🚴‍♀️ So this morning we went out and met up with the cycling group he used to ride with on one of their “easy” ride days.

32 miles later 😅

Most of these guys are 60+ and still training for Half Ironmans, riding strong, and absolutely flying on the bike. Don’t let age fool you. These guys are beasts.

Meanwhile my heart rate was sitting in zone 4 most of the ride, over 150 bpm for almost two hours, and I was drafting in the back the entire time. If you don’t know what drafting means, it means I was getting pulled by the group and still working hard.

This is exactly why I talk so much about movement, mobility, and healthy aging. Staying active as we age is possible, but you have to keep moving

Getting acclimated to the humidity will take a little time. My run today was slow, but my heart rate was up. I just had to listen to my body and not worry about pace. South Florida running… I love it❤️

25 miles of my old 60-80 mile route. Hoping to build that endurance back up 🙂

Just under 30 miles today on my old route that I used to train on when I was training for the Ironman Triathlon. This ride would be for an easy day😳! Well, it kicked my butt today, but I absolutely loved every minute of it.
