Here is the complete list of the primary fascia lines with a Yin Yoga pose for each:
1. Superficial Back Line (SBL)Path: Runs from the soles of the feet, up the calves, hamstrings, and spine, ending at the brow ridge.
Yin Yoga Pose: Caterpillar Pose (Seated Forward Fold). How it helps: Flexing forward stretches the entire posterior network of fascia from your heels to your neck.
2. Superficial Front Line (SFL)
Path: Connects the tops of the feet up the shins, quadriceps, re**us abdominis, and chest to the throat and skull.
Yin Yoga Pose: Saddle Pose (or Sphinx Pose).
How it helps: Reclining backward or propping up the torso creates a deep, passive extension that opens the tight fascia of the quads, hip flexors, and belly.
3. Lateral Line (LL)
Path: Travels up both outer sides of the body, from the outer foot, up the side of the leg, hips, torso, and neck.
Yin Yoga Pose: Bananasana.
How it helps: Curving the body into a supine “C” shape drastically lengthens the side-body fascia, including the IT band and intercostal muscles.
4. Spiral Line (SL)Path: Loops across the body like a helix, wrapping the torso and legs to assist in twisting and rotational tracking.
Yin Yoga Pose: Reclining Twist (Twisted Roots). How it helps: Staying in a passive twist allows the diagonal fascial planes wrapping around the ribs and spine to unravel.
5. Deep Front Line (DFL)
Path: The body’s core fascial axis, running along the inner arches, inner thighs, pelvic floor, deep hip flexors (psoas), and up through the diaphragm.
Yin Yoga Pose: Dragonfly Pose (Seated Straddle).
How it helps: Straddling the legs opens the adductors (inner thighs) and targets the deepest core layers of your structural architecture.
6. Arm Lines (Front & Back)
Path: Four distinct lines stretching from the spine/chest all the way through the shoulders to the fingers.
Yin Yoga Pose: Melting Heart Pose (Anahatasana).
How it helps: Extending the arms forward while lowering the chest stretches the deep and superficial arm fascia connecting into the upper back and pectoral muscles.
