CMST BIDS FAREWELL TO DANIEL KAMPANI ON RETIREMENT

Today, the Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Moses Chisale, led CMST staff in bidding farewell to Assistant Administration Officer, Mr. Daniel Kampani, who has retired after clocking 60.

Fondly known as 'Angoni', Mr. Kampani served CMST for 13 years and six months, having joined the organisation on 14 January 2013.

Speaking on behalf of the Social Welfare Committee, Mr. Patrick Mulauzi described Mr. Kampani as an exemplary and cheerful leader whose approachable nature made him easy to work with and highly respected among colleagues.

Representing the Human Resource and Administration Manager, Security Services Officer Mr. Macmillan Mwakhundi said Mr. Kampani was a fatherly figure and trusted adviser on daily office matters. He noted that Mr. Kampani leaves behind a legacy of warm workplace relationships and professionalism.

Dr. Chisale commended Mr. Kampani for his dedication and commitment to the organisation, saying CMST thrives because of staff members who selflessly devote their time and effort towards achieving the company's goals.

In his farewell remarks, Mr. Kampani encouraged staff to remain dedicated in their duties and always strive to give their best. He also challenged them to put God first in all they do, saying this principle contributed significantly to his successful career.

Mr. Kampani expressed his gratitude to CMST and wished the organisation continued success in the years ahead.

CMST SUPPORTS PHASOM PHARMACY EXPO 2026

CMST is proud to have supported the PHASOM Pharmacy Expo 2026 held recently at Malawi Sun Hotel in Blantyre under the theme “Strategic Roles of Pharmacists in Industrial Pharmacy.”

The Expo brought together pharmacy professionals from across the pharmaceutical sector, including manufacturers, retailers, researchers, academics, distributors and supply chain experts, to discuss opportunities and challenges within Malawi’s pharmaceutical industry.

A key theme that emerged throughout the presentations and panel discussions was the significant untapped potential of local pharmaceutical manufacturing and its importance in strengthening medicine security, promoting industrialisation and supporting national development.

CMST Board Chairperson Mrs Tadala Hamisi-Mengezi participated as a panellist representing the distribution sector. During the discussions, she highlighted the critical role that local pharmaceutical manufacturing can play in addressing existing supply chain gaps, improving access to medicines and strengthening the resilience of Malawi’s healthcare system.

She also emphasised the importance of robust quality control measures in ensuring the availability of safe and effective medicines.

CMST Pharmacist Ms Chisomo Phiri delivered a presentation on the “History of Manufacturing at CMST”, outlining the Trust’s manufacturing journey and future aspirations. Her presentation highlighted CMST’s plans to expand its manufacturing operations beyond morphine suspension to include methylated spirit and other health products, in line with the Malawi 2063 Vision and the drive towards greater local production of essential health commodities.

As part of its commitment to strengthening the pharmaceutical sector and promoting local manufacturing, CMST also contributed MK1 million towards the success of the Expo, in addition to its active participation in the programme.

CMST BOARD APPRECIATES RMS NORTH OPERATIONS

The CMST Board has engaged with staff at Regional Medical Stores (RMS) North as part of an orientation on the unit’s operations and service delivery mandate.

RMS North serves all seven districts in the Northern Region, supplying over 170 health facilities, including Mzuzu Central Hospital, eight district hospitals, and 15 Christian Health Association of Malawi (CHAM) facilities.

Board Chairperson, Mrs. Tadala Hamisi-Mengezi, commended staff for their candid engagement and valuable insights. She noted that the issues raised, including proposals to strengthen stock management and last-mile distribution, demonstrate strong internal commitment and a shared resolve to improve organisational performance.

CMST Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Moses Chisale, acknowledged the current strategic challenges affecting stock availability but commended staff for their dedication and professionalism. He reassured them that ongoing interventions are aimed at addressing these challenges and strengthening overall system performance.

He further emphasised that leadership remains confident and committed to achieving sustained improvements in supply chain efficiency and service delivery outcomes.

BOARD ENGAGES MZUZU CENTRAL HOSPITAL ON SERVICE DELIVERY

The CMST Board today engaged with Mzuzu Central Hospital (MCH) to deliberate on strategic issues aimed at enhancing service delivery.
CMST Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Moses Chisale, noted that the meeting forms part of ongoing efforts to sustain high-level strategic dialogue with key stakeholders.

MCH Director General, Dr. Doris Kayambo, highlighted the hospital’s increasing specialisation and the resulting demand for medicines and medical supplies. She emphasised that the drive to reduce referrals to Kamuzu and Queen Elizabeth Central Hospitals calls for improved efficiency and responsiveness from CMST.

Board Chairperson, Mrs. Tadala Hamisi-Mengezi, commended MCH for its commitment to engaging CMST at the highest level, noting that such interactions foster open and constructive dialogue on service delivery. She acknowledged the need for continued strengthening of CMST’s strategic and operational systems to effectively respond to the growing demands associated with MCH’s emerging specialty services.

CEO’S VISIT TO NKHATA BAY DISTRICT HOSPITAL

Today, the Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Moses Chisale, paid courtesy call on Nkhata Bay District Hospital as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen service delivery across health facilities.

During the visit, Dr. Chisale held a comprehensive engagement with the hospital management team, led by the Director of Health and Social Services (DHSS), Dr. Topcy Mdolo. The discussions focused on the status of medical supplies by CMST and the operational capacity of the facility.

Dr. Chisale acknowledged existing challenges, particularly in relation to supply fill rates. He, however, emphasized that these issues are well recognized at leadership level and are being systematically addressed. He reassured the management that concrete measures are already underway to improve the availability and distribution of essential medical supplies.

The CEO further underscored the institution’s commitment to ensuring consistent service delivery and strengthening supply chain systems. He noted that leadership remains fully engaged and is actively monitoring progress to ensure sustained improvements.

CMST HOSTS US DELEGATION

Today, CMST welcomed a United States Government delegation to our headquarters in Lilongwe.

CEO Dr. Moses G.P. Chisale highlighted the signing of a 5-year Memorandum of Understanding (2026–2030) between Malawi and the United States, marking a major step toward building a resilient and sustainable health system.

The partnership will support the transition to a Government-to-Government supply chain model through CMST, strengthen national systems for HIV, malaria and maternal health, and advance quality, transparency, and innovation across Malawi’s health supply chain.

While challenges remain, CMST remains committed to ensuring reliable access to essential medicines for all Malawians.

CMST, NBM FORGE PATH FOR SUSTAINABLE HEALTHCARE FINANCING

Today, CMST CEO, Dr. Moses Chisale, paid a courtesy call on National Bank of Malawi (NBM) CEO, Mr. Harold Jiya, to strengthen collaboration between the two institutions.

The discussions focused on forex support to facilitate timely payments to foreign suppliers, as well as support for local pharmaceutical manufacturers and suppliers contracted by CMST.

The meeting also explored opportunities to establish a long-term partnership aligned with CMST’s mandate of procuring, warehousing and distributing affordable, quality medicines and medical supplies across Malawi. Additionally, both parties discussed enhancing banking services to promote financial sustainability for both institutions.

Regional Medical Stores (RMS) South was pleased to host the Zomba District Health Office (DHO) team for a courtesy visit and window shopping session aimed at strengthening collaboration and addressing customer related issues.

During the visit, the District Medical Officer (DMO) for Zomba DHO, Dr. Gift Msafili, expressed appreciation for the branch’s continued support and timely response to their enquiries.

The CMST Branch Manager, Mr. Stewart Lichapa, also thanked the DMO and the entire Zomba DHO team for the strong and positive working relationship that has always existed.

The Zomba DHO delegation included representatives from Dental Services, Laboratory, and Physiotherapy departments.

During the interaction, the Zomba DHO team identified several items available at the branch which they were previously unaware of, highlighting opportunities for improved awareness and enhanced service delivery.
