Please join us in sending appreciation and best wishes to "Sophie", a cherished member of the Therapy Dogs of TPOC Halifax. Sophie passed away on December 28, 2021 after many years of pet therapy work across the Halifax Regional Municipality. Sophie, a beautiful Golden Retriever, achieved her initial certification as a TPOC Therapy Dog in 2012. Sophie, and her handler Judy, visited many nursing homes, schools, universities, offices and libraries over the past 9 years. Many children practiced their skills by reading aloud to Sophie at Halifax Public Libraries. Sophie also regularly dropped in at offices of the Halifax Regional Police to shake a paw.
Thank you, Sophie, for all the comfort you have given to young and old throughout our community. Rest in Peace.

There are many important causes seeking our support, particularly on Giving Tuesday. Please consider a donation to Therapeutic Paws of Canada if you are able. We are all volunteer based, and deliver pet therapy services in Halifax, Sydney and many communities in other provinces — at nursing homes, hospitals, libraries, schools and more. We don’t charge a fee for our visits and rely on donations to cover our direct expenses. Thank you for your support.

The Halifax Team of TPOC is back in action! All in-person therapy pet services were suspended in March 2020 due to Covid-19, but our Team is gradually returning to active status over the next few months. We are carefully following National TPOC guidelines for safe visiting, and also local public health guidelines. For now, our therapy visits are limited to seniors and residents of Long Term Care facilities in Halifax. Our volunteers and their certified therapy dogs are thrilled to be returning to visiting. Check out the smile on Stanley!

Francine recently advised us that she and Tasha are retiring from TPOC Halifax. Before TPOC visits had to be suspended in March 2020, Tasha brought joy to many locations around Halifax, including Maplestone Enhanced Care, Dalhousie University, and the Naval Fleet School at Stadacona. Thank you Francine and Tasha for the comfort you brought to many others through your visits. We wish you both all the best in the years ahead.
