We believe everyone deserves to be seen, valued, respected, and supported for who they are. Pride Month is a time to celebrate diversity, promote inclusion, and continue building a community where all people can thrive and belong.

"Work hard and be nice to people."

Those are the words Elizabeth Crehan lives by.

Elizabeth recently retired after nearly 34 years of service with the Butler County Prosecutor’s Office. Her story is a powerful reminder of what can happen when individuals with disabilities are given the opportunity to learn, work, and live independently!

Summer fun starts with water safety! Whether you're visiting a community pool, water park, or backyard pool, a little preparation can help everyone have a safe and enjoyable experience.

✅ DO:
- Review pool rules before entering the water.
- Ensure constant supervision, especially for children and individuals who may wander.
- Use life jackets or approved flotation devices when appropriate.
- Communicate expectations clearly and use visual supports if helpful.
- Take sensory needs into consideration; ear protection, sunglasses, or breaks from crowded areas may help.
- Know where lifeguards, exits, and quiet spaces are located.

❌ DON'T:
- Assume everyone understands water safety rules without explanation.
- Leave anyone unattended near water, even for a moment.
- Force participation if someone is uncomfortable or overwhelmed.
- Rely solely on flotation devices as a substitute for supervision.
- Ignore signs of sensory overload, fatigue, or anxiety.

Water safety is everyone's responsibility. By planning ahead and providing the right supports, we can help ensure that all individuals have a safe, fun, and inclusive summer experience.
