The National Foundation for Cancer Research (NFCR) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides scientists in the lab the funding they need to make game-changing discoveries in cancer treatments, detection, prevention and ultimately, a cure. NFCR has distinguished itself in the cancer research sector by emphasizing long-term, transformative research often overlooked by other major funding s

ources. With the help of more than 5.3 million individual donors over the last 50 years, NFCR has provided $410 million in funding to public education and cancer research leading to some of the important, life-saving discoveries that benefit patients today.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Michele Carbone, our 2026 Szent-GyΓΆrgyi Prize Winner!

Dr. Carbone is most well-known for his landmark discovery that mesothelioma is driven by an inherited gene, a finding that transformed how the disease is understood, diagnosed, treated, and prevented worldwide.

His discovery has also driven historic public policy changes that have saved lives across generations.

Dr. Carbone will receive the prize at the NFCR Global Summit and Award Ceremonies for Cancer Research & Entrepreneurship on October 9, 2026, at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.

This week is National Women's Health Week (May 10–16) . πŸŽ—οΈ
Early detection saves lives. Cancers like breast, cervical, and ovarian cancer are most treatable when caught early β€” yet screenings get put off every day.

This week, encourage the everyone in your life to make that call. Schedule that appointment. Share this as a reminder.
And right now, our Spring Match is still going β€” every dollar donated to NFCR is being matched, doubling your impact for the cancer research that changes outcomes for women everywhere.

May is Brain Cancer Awareness Month β€” and for the more than 94,000 people diagnosed with a brain tumor in the U.S. every year, research isn't just a priority. It's everything.
Brain cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in children and adolescents. It's one of the most underfunded, least understood, and hardest-to-treat cancers we face.
At NFCR, we fund the scientists who refuse to accept that. From exploring how tumors form and grow, to finding new ways to stop them β€” our researchers are working to change what's possible for patients and families.
The brain holds everything β€” memories, dreams, the people we love. Help us protect it. https://hubs.ly/Q04fJ3Tz0

Today is β€” and it could save your life. πŸ–€

Melanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer. In 2026 alone, nearly 235,000 new cases are expected to be diagnosed in the U.S.

The good news? When caught early, it's highly treatable.

Know your ABCDEs:
βœ… Asymmetry
βœ… Border irregularity
βœ… Color variation
βœ… Diameter larger than a pencil eraser
βœ… Evolving size, shape, or color

Check your skin. Schedule a screening. Share this post.

Early detection saves lives β€” don't wait.

April is National Cancer Control Month β€” a time to recognize that cancer is not only treatable, but in many cases, preventable.

Did you know?
πŸ”¬ Between 30–50% of cancers can be prevented through lifestyle changes and early detection.
πŸ”¬ Regular screenings can catch cancer at its earliest β€” and most treatable β€” stage.
πŸ”¬ Research breakthroughs are making it possible to detect cancer earlier and treat it more precisely than ever before.

At NFCR, we fund the long-term, transformative research that drives these advances forward. Because controlling cancer starts with understanding it.

πŸŽ™οΈ New episode coming soon β€” and this one is special.
Dr. Tony Hunter is one of the most influential cancer researchers alive. His discovery β€” made almost by accident β€” eventually led to over 80 cancer drugs being approved for patients worldwide. Drugs like Gleevec, which proved the skeptics wrong and changed what we thought was possible.
In his conversation with Dr. Sujuan Ba on All Things Cancer, Dr. Hunter talks about that discovery, where cancer research is headed, the promise and limits of AI, and why he thinks the biggest breakthroughs are still ahead of us.
Stay tuned β€” this is one you won't want to miss.
