Remember what things were like in the weeks and months BC? Before Covid-19, I mean? Waiting times for routine hospital appointments were long and getting longer. Doctors and other medical professionals were in short supply.
Then the Coronavirus pandemic swept the world and a bad situation suddenly became incalculably worse. Operations were postponed or cancelled, health professionals were reassigned and wards repurposed. Patients were fearful of visiting hospitals or GP surgeries, even when their need was great.
But now the signs are indicating that we’ve turned a corner. If a second wave can be avoided, it looks like hospital departments will start opening again. This is obviously great news. But it could presage a massive headache for admin staff in hospitals and GP practices, as patients return to have their long-delayed treatments carried out. The need for locums and other health professionals will skyrocket as everyone struggles to catch up.
