✨ Shana Tova! A new year has begun. How will you embody your intentions?

The beginning of a new year isn't only about setting intentions. It's about creating practices that help us live them.

This week, I invite you to continue your journey of embodied renewal through two beautiful opportunities.

🌿 On Thursday, September 17th, members of the Embodied Jewish Wisdom Network will gather online for our Extended Embodied Practice Session, embodying the themes of return and renewal in Tishrei while connecting with leaders and learners from around the world.

🧘 On Friday, September 18th, I'll be at JCC San Francisco for Yoga for Renewal, an in-studio all-levels workshop blending Iyengar-based yoga with Jewish mystical teachings. Together we'll breathe, move, reflect, and embody the intentions we've carried into this New Year.

Whether you're joining us online or in person, I'd love to continue practicing with you.

The High Holy Days invite us to pause, to reflect, and to remember that every ending also holds the possibility of a new beginning.

My hope for each of us is that we enter this year with open hearts, curious minds, and a willingness to listen to the wisdom that already lives within us.

May we have the courage to release what no longer serves us, the compassion to meet ourselves gently, and the strength to continue growing in ways that bring more peace, connection, and joy into our lives, our communities, our worlds.

May this year be filled with meaningful moments, loving relationships, good health, and opportunities to embody the values we hold most dear.

Wishing you and those you love a sweet, peaceful, and blessed New Year.

🌙 The new moon reminds us that every beginning starts in darkness, with a willingness to trust what is not yet fully visible.

As we prepare for a new Jewish year, I warmly invite you to join me in community.
Our Rosh Hodesh Women's Dance Circle begins this Sunday, September 13th, and registration closes on Thursday, September 10th.

Together, we'll spend ten months dancing, creating, writing, sharing, and exploring the seasonal wisdom of the Hebrew calendar. This is a space where movement is prayer, creativity is spiritual practice, and community reminds us we don't have to navigate life's seasons alone.

Whether you've danced with me before or have been quietly wondering if this circle might be for you, I encourage you to listen to that inner nudge.

✨ There is still time to join us.

I'd love to welcome you into this year's circle. 🌿💛

✨ There is still time to join us this Sunday for an opportunity to pause before the New Year arrives. Rather than rushing ahead, we are invited to slow down, reflect, and reconnect with what is most true.

This Sunday evening, we'll gather in Berkeley for our annual Elul Dance Circle, a nurturing space where movement becomes prayer, creativity becomes a gateway to spiritual connection, and community becomes a source of strength.

Together we'll dance, create art, write, share, and explore the spiritual themes of Elul while surrounded by the beauty of trees, open windows, moonlight, and one another.

Whether you're a longtime dancer or stepping into this space for the very first time, you'll be welcomed with warmth and care. 🌿

If your heart has been longing for a gentler embodied way to prepare for the High Holy Days, I'd love for you to join us.

🌙 Why do we prepare before the New Year begins?

The month of Elul is often described as a time of returning.

Returning to ourselves.

Returning to what matters most.

Returning to the quiet voice within that can be difficult to hear amidst the noise of daily life.

Rather than rushing toward resolutions, Elul invites us to slow down. To reflect with honesty and compassion. To soften. To listen. To prepare our hearts before we cross the threshold into a new year.

For me, one of the most meaningful ways to experience this sacred season is through dance. In our movement practices, we embody the teachings instead of thinking about them. We locate them in our beings: in our bellies, in our back bodies, in our softness and our structure. When we dance freely, without choreographed steps, our inner wisdom is awakened. Our bodies often know the way long before our minds catch up.

On Sunday, August 30, we'll gather for an evening of conscious dance, art, writing, Jewish wisdom, and community.

If you've been curious about our dance circles, this one-time gathering is a beautiful place to begin. 💛

🍃 Sometimes our bodies know the season is changing before our minds do.

Have you ever noticed that before you even look at the calendar, something begins to shift inside you? You may find yourself craving more quiet, more time in nature, or more space to simply breathe.

Our culture often teaches us to prepare for a new season by filling our calendars and making plans. Jewish wisdom offers another path. It invites us to pause first.
The month of Elul is an opportunity to listen more deeply. To notice what is asking to be released. To reconnect with our true essence (etzem in Hebrew); the parts of ourselves that we may overlook in the busyness of everyday life.

This is one of the reasons I love gathering in community, in stillness, movement and dance. 💃 Through conscious movement, art, reflection, and community, we create space to hear what our bodies have been quietly whispering all along.

If you're looking for a meaningful way to prepare for the High Holy Days, I invite you to join me for our Elul Women’s Dance Circle on August 30.

All faiths are welcome. No dance experience or prior knowledge is needed. Come exactly as you are. 🌙 https://embodiedjewishlearning.org/ejl-events/eluldance26

🌿 Late summer has its own wisdom.

There is something about this time of year that invites us to slow down. The days are still warm, but the light begins to change. The garden starts to let go. Nature gently reminds us that every season has its own rhythm, and that renewal doesn't begin with rushing forward. It begins with paying attention, slowing down and letting go.

In Jewish tradition, we don't wait until Rosh Hashanah to begin the work of the New Year. We are first given the gift of Elul, a month devoted to reflection, returning, and preparing our hearts for what is to come. And in fact, it all truly begins on the 17th of Tammuz, in July, when the breaking/breaching of the temple walls preceding their destruction mirrors the breaking open of our hearts as the first step in returning (teshuvah in Hebrew).

I have found that turning inward (p’nimiut in Hebrew) with conscious awareness in our embodiment practices is one of the most powerful ways to enter this season. When we pay attention to our breath, to our bodies, and to our broken hearts in stillness, in daily movements and in our dances, we quiet the constant chatter of the mind and awaken to the wisdom of the body. We remember the truths that live within our beings, beyond the mind, in a place where words alone cannot “teach” or touch.

On Sunday, August 30, I'll be gathering with our community in Berkeley for an Elul Dance Circle, where we'll dance, create art, write, reflect, and embody our intentions for this sacred month together.

Whether you've danced with me before or this would be your first experience, you’ll be warmly welcomed. 💛

I'd love to share this beautiful evening with you:

As we move through the month of Shevat, here in Northern California we feel the coming of spring with all of our senses. The magnolia trees are blossoming, early spring rains are arriving this week, and the air is warming. We will celebrate Purim in the month of Adar, and then Passover in the month of spring on the Hebrew calendar, Nisan or 'bud'.

What does it mean to leave Egypt?

The story of the Exodus is not only about a historical departure. It is a living map for how we move, again and again, from constriction toward expanse. From habit toward choice. From inner tumult toward breath and ground.

This March, I’m offering Embodied Exodus, a 4-week virtual series where we explore this journey through Torah, gentle movement, stillness, reflection, and creative practice. Each week is rooted in a single line of text, inviting us to cultivate presence, spaciousness, and trust in the wisdom of the body.

All bodies are welcome. Movement, rest, and stillness are all honored.
