đź’§ This is why we always say: test the water AND check the equipment.

A homeowner right here in Lewiston called Panda Water Systems because their water had become noticeably discolored.

At first glance, you might assume the problem was coming from the city water.

It wasn’t.

After testing the water and inspecting their equipment, we discovered their older water softener was actually contributing to the problem.

We removed the old equipment, installed a new Kenai Eco Pro+, and just look at the difference in the water. 👀💧

Here’s the takeaway:

Just because an old water softener or filtration system is still running doesn’t mean it’s still doing its job.

If you have an older system in your basement and you’re not sure what it’s doing—or the last time it was serviced—give Panda a call.

At Panda Water Systems….We’ll test your water, inspect your existing equipment, explain what we find, and recommend a solution only if you need one.

📍 Locally owned & serving Lewiston, Niagara County and WNY

Not sure what your water system is actually doing? Message Panda and we’ll take a look.

đź’§ WATER WEDNESDAY: WHAT ABOUT THE WATER YOU SHOWER IN? đźšż

When we talk about filtered water, most people immediately think about the water they drink.

But think about how much water your family uses every day for showering, bathing, brushing teeth, cooking and washing your hands.

Your skin is the largest organ in your body, and it comes into contact with your water every time you shower or bathe.

Depending on your water supply, your tap water can contain chlorine, hardness minerals and other substances that may affect its taste, smell and feel.

🥤 Drinking water filtration can help reduce specific contaminants and improve the water you drink and cook with.

🚿 Whole-house filtration treats the water as it enters your home—before it reaches your showers, sinks and other fixtures.

And to be clear: municipal water is treated, tested and regulated. Whole-house filtration is about taking your home’s water quality a step further based on what’s actually in your water and what you want to reduce.

So here’s this week’s Water Wednesday question:

If you’re concerned about filtering the water you drink, have you thought about the water your family showers and bathes in every day?

💧 Curious what’s actually in your water?

Start with a FREE in-home water test from Panda Water Systems. We’ll test your water, explain what we’re seeing, and help you understand your options—without the pressure.

đź’§ Cleaner Water. Healthier Home.

Every day, your home’s water is used for drinking, cooking, showering, bathing, laundry, and so much more.

A whole-house filtration system can provide:

âś… Better tasting, better smelling water
âś… Reduced chlorine throughout your home
âś… Cleaner water for showers, cooking, laundry, and drinking
âś… Long-lasting catalytic carbon filtration
âś… Peace of mind for the people who matter most

At Panda Water Systems, we believe informed homeowners make the best decisions. That’s why we focus on education first—taking the time to answer your questions, evaluate your water, and recommend solutions that fit your home’s specific needs.

đź’§ WATER WEDNESDAY

What Are Total Trihalomethanes (TTHMs) and Why Are They in My Water?

If you’ve ever looked at your annual water quality report, you may have noticed something called Total Trihalomethanes (TTHMs) and wondered what they are.

The good news? They’re not intentionally added to your water.

TTHMs form when chlorine, which is used to disinfect public drinking water, reacts with naturally occurring organic matter like leaves, algae, and other plant material in the water source.

Think of it like this:

đź’§ Chlorine + Natural Organic Matter = TTHMs

Should you be concerned?

The EPA regulates TTHMs and sets strict limits for public water systems. Most municipal water systems meet these standards and regularly test to ensure the water remains within those limits.

However, because TTHMs can be present in treated drinking water, many homeowners choose to reduce their exposure. Research suggests exposure can occur not only by drinking the water, but also by breathing steam or through skin contact during showers.

Can they be reduced?

Yes! High-quality activated carbon filtration is one of the most effective ways to reduce TTHMs throughout your home. A reverse osmosis system can provide additional reduction for the water you drink and cook with.

💧 Panda’s Water Tip:
Your annual Consumer Confidence Report (water quality report) contains valuable information about your local water including TTHMs. If you’ve never looked at yours or aren’t sure what it means, we would be happy to help explain it.

At Panda Water Systems, we believe the best decisions start with good information.

📍 We offer FREE in-home water testing throughout Western New York. If you’d like to better understand what’s in your water and explore your options, send us a message—we’re always happy to help.

đź’§ Water Wednesday

Helping Western New York understand what’s in their water.

🚰 This Week’s Topic:

Why Does My Tap Water Smell Like Chlorine?

Have you ever turned on your faucet and noticed a strong chlorine smell? You’re not alone—and the answer might surprise you.

Chlorine is added to municipal drinking water to protect you. Water treatment plants use it to disinfect the water and kill harmful bacteria and viruses before it travels through miles of underground pipes to your home.

Is chlorine in tap water safe?

Yes. Public water systems must meet strict EPA and New York State regulations to ensure disinfectant levels remain within safe limits.

So why does it smell stronger some days?

You may notice more chlorine because of:
đź’§ Seasonal changes in water treatment
đź’§ Routine flushing of water mains
💧 Water sitting in your home’s plumbing
đź’§ Warm weather, which makes chlorine easier to smell

Even when it’s considered safe, many people don’t enjoy the taste or odor.

Can it be removed?

Yes! A high-quality activated carbon filtration system can significantly reduce chlorine taste and odor throughout your entire home—giving you better tasting drinking water, better coffee, and showers without that “pool water” smell.

At Panda Water Systems, we believe the first step to better water is education. Our goal is to help Western New York families understand their water so they can make informed decisions for their homes.

đź’¬ Have you ever noticed a chlorine smell in your tap water?
Tell us what town you’re from in the comments—we’d love to hear your experience!

See you next Wednesday for another đź’§ Water Wednesday!
