In this week's episode, Michelle shares what happened when she stopped trying to control herself around food and started understanding herself instead.

For years, she believed stress was causing her eating struggles. She worried that if she stopped restricting herself, she'd lose all control. What she found was the exact opposite.

When she stopped labeling foods as good and bad, cravings became easier to manage. When she stopped fighting urges, they stopped feeling so powerful. And when she became more curious about her thoughts, she became less critical of herself.

I am a board-certified chiropractor and nutritionist. I knew exactly what I was supposed to eat.

And I used to pour hot water on my potato chips before throwing them away because I knew if I didn't destroy them first, I would go back in the trash and eat them.

I am not embarrassed by that anymore. That is what happens when your brain has been trained to believe something out there has more power over you than you do.

You are not weak. You just never learned what was actually going on in your mind.

I had been counting points on Weight Watchers for most of my adult life.

I walked into a coaching retreat ready to ask how to get the weight off during menopause.

And the coach asked the room one question. Why do you eat when you're not hungry? I did not want to answer it. I just wanted the strategy.

But the honest answer was that I did not even know I was eating when I was not hungry. I thought I had a food problem. I did not. I had a mind problem. And not one diet in 30 years had ever asked me that.
