Falls are one of the leading causes of injury in adults over 65. And one of the most important factors in fall risk is something that does not always get enough attention: balance and how well the body senses its own position in space.

Researchers have been looking at whether chiropractic care plays a role in falls prevention for older adults. The findings are worth knowing about.

A number of studies have examined the connection between chiropractic adjustments and what is called proprioception (the body's ability to sense where it is and how it is moving). Proprioception signals come from receptors in the joints of the spine and the limbs. When those joints are restricted or not moving properly, those signals can become less accurate. That affects balance, reaction time, and coordination.

Research published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics has explored how chiropractic care may influence balance and postural control in older adults. The findings suggest that restoring joint motion through chiropractic adjustments may support improvements in these areas, though research in this field is ongoing and individual results vary.

What this means for you or your family: for older adults dealing with joint stiffness, reduced mobility, or a history of falls, chiropractic care may be worth including in a broader approach to staying active and stable.

A 2017 randomized controlled trial from Norway, known as the Chaibi et al. study, looked specifically at chiropractic adjustments and their effect on cervicogenic headaches.

Cervicogenic headaches are headaches that start in the neck. They are different from migraines. The pain typically begins at the base of the skull and travels forward, and they are often made worse by certain neck movements or prolonged positions. People describe them as a steady ache, sometimes with stiffness in the neck or shoulder on one side.

The 2017 Norwegian study found that chiropractic adjustments reduced cervicogenic headache frequency at all measured follow-up points compared to a control group. The improvements held at 3, 6, and 12 months.

What this means for you: if your headaches tend to start in the neck or the back of your head, feel worse after long periods of sitting or looking down, and come with neck stiffness, there is research-backed reason to explore chiropractic care as a part of your approach.

Cervicogenic headaches are often misidentified or grouped with tension headaches. Our doctors take a thorough history and examination to understand what type of headache pattern you are dealing with before building a care plan.

Chiropractic care is not a guaranteed fix for every headache. But for those driven by cervical joint dysfunction, the evidence is worth knowing about.

One of the most common misconceptions about chiropractic care is that every adjustment looks the same. The audible pop. The twist. The table. That is one technique, and it is not the only one.

At Pain and Wellness Group, our doctors use a variety of approaches depending on who is in front of them. Here is why that matters.

A pregnant patient in her third trimester needs a very different approach than a college athlete. A child with growing pains needs different positioning and pressure than a 60-year-old with osteoporosis. A patient who has had recent surgery or who has significant muscle tension may respond better to a softer, low-force method. What works well for one person may not be appropriate for another.

One of the most common things new patients tell us is that they finally feel heard.

That is something we take seriously. Because too many people show up to our clinic having already been to several providers, sometimes dismissed, sometimes handed a prescription and sent home, sometimes told their pain was "normal for your age." And they still hurt.

At Pain and Wellness Group, our doctors start every appointment by listening. Not just to where it hurts. But to when it started, what makes it worse, what you have already tried, what your daily life looks like, and what you are hoping to get back.

Dr. Luke Lotriet understand that pain is personal. Two people with the exact same diagnosis can have completely different experiences and different needs. A laborer with back pain needs a different plan than a desk worker with the same diagnosis. A mom of three needs a different approach than a 70-year-old retiree.

Listening is not just a nice thing to do. It is how we build care plans that actually work for you.

When you come in for your Free Consultation, expect conversation. Expect questions. Expect our full attention. You are not just a file number here. You are a person, and your care starts with us understanding your story.

Ready to feel heard? Come in and let's talk.

One session. Full-body reset.

When your joints move the way they're supposed to, your muscles don't have to work overtime to compensate.

Every adjustment is tailored to restore healthy movement, reduce restrictions, and help your body function at its best.

The sciatic nerve is the longest nerve in your body. It starts in your lower back, runs through your hips and glutes, and travels down each leg to your feet. When something presses on it or irritates it, the result is sciatica: pain, burning, tingling, or numbness that can travel all the way from your lower back to your toes.

Most people describe it as unlike any pain they have felt before. Sharp. Electric. Relentless. And almost always worse on one side.

So what actually causes that pressure?

The most common causes are a bulging or herniated disc (when the cushion between two vertebrae pushes outward and presses against the nerve), joint restriction in the lumbar spine (the lower five vertebrae of your back), or tightness in the piriformis muscle (a small muscle deep in the glute that runs right next to the sciatic nerve). In some cases, the muscle itself can compress the nerve, which is sometimes called piriformis syndrome.

If you have been dealing with shooting pain down your leg, numbness in your foot, or that deep ache in your glute that will not quit, come in and let us figure out what is driving it.
