KNOW YOUR EYES

X It’s a MYTH for adults at least!

Borrowing someone else’s glasses for a few minutes will NOT cause
permanent damage to an adult’s eyes. Your eyeballs are already fully developed
so looking through the wrong prescription lenses cannot physically alter
the shape or structure.

However, doing this can cause some uncomfortable and temporary side
effects including dizziness and nausea, severe eye strain blurriness and
headaches from your eye muscles overworking

CONTACT LENSES

CHOOSING COATINGS

These surface treatments enhance all-day wearing
comfort, reduce eye dryness, minimizes protein
buildup.

Options include:

• Plasma Surface Treatment: Used primarily on rigid
gas-permeable (RGP) lenses to make the surface highly
resistant to protein deposits and oils, keeping the lens clean.

• Moisture-Lock Matrices / Wetting Agents: Molecular layers
embedded into or bonded onto soft lenses (like hydrogels) that
continuously attract water to eliminate eye dryness and maintain
all-day comfort.

• Polyethylene Glycol (PEG) Coatings: A specialized polymer
coating (such as Tangible Hydra-PEG) applied to lenses to improve
lubricity, allowing the eyelid to slide smoothly over the lens and
reduce irritation.

We are here to help you and your Optometrist decide on the perfect lens types.

CHOOSING MATERIAL

COATINGS AND TREATMENTS

Your choice affects comfort, breathability and durability. Select
the best option based on your eye shape, tear production and
vision needs. Options include:

Silicone Hydrogel (Soft Lenses):

Pros: Combine water content with silicone to offer
exceptionally high oxygen permeability, making them
healthier for the eye. They are instantly comfortable
and suitable for long daily and extended wear.

Cons: More prone to accumulating lipid (fat) deposits
from tears than regular hydrogel or rigid lenses.

Standard Hydrogel (Soft Lenses):

Pros: Instantly comfortable and highly affordable.

Cons: They on rely on water for oxygen delivery.
High-water types can dry out in low humidity,
causing eye irritation.

Rigid Gas Permeable (RGP) Lenses:
These firm plastic lenses maintain their shape while letting
oxygen pass through.

Pros: Provide sharper vision, resist protein build-up and
suit irregular astigmatism or keratoconus.

Cons: Require 1-2 week adaption period and feel
noticeable initially.

GLASSES

CHOOSING THE RIGHT LENS
COATINGS AND TREATMENTS

Choosing the right coatings and treatments
for your glasses can make a big difference
and include:

Anti-Relfective (AR):
Eliminates distracting glare, improves
night driving visibility and makes your
eyes more visible to others.

Ultraviolet (UV):
A crucial shield to protect your eyes
from long-term sun damage.
(Note: Many modern plastics and all
polycarbonates have this built-in)

Photochromic:
(Formerly Polychromatic) These smart
lenses automatically darken in bright
sunlight and turn clear indoors, giving
you seamless transitions.

GLASSES
WHICH LENS?

CHOOSING THE RIGHT LENS MATERIALS

Choosing the right material for your glasses
can make a big difference and include:

Plastic (CR-39):
A great standard choice. It is lighter and
more flexible than traditional glass, less
likely to shatter, and blocks UV light
naturally.

Polycarbonate:
The top choice for sports and children.
It is highly impact-resistant and specifically
designed to prevent eye injuries.

Trivex:
A premium alternative to polycarbonate.
It meets the same high-safety standards
but provides clearer optics with less
visual distortion.

High-Index:
Best for strong prescriptions. These are
incredibly thin and lightweight,
eliminating the thick edge look.

GLASSES

CHOOSING THE RIGHT LENSES

MULTIFOCAL LENSES

Multifocal lenses correct distance vision
along with presbyopia and include:

Bifocal Lenses: Correct for reading on the

distance vision, intermediate vision and

Progressive Lenses: Work the same way
as bifocals and trifocals except they have a
a smooth transition instead of visible dividing
lines between the zones.

Computer Glasses: Designed to focus on
computer screen have multifocal lenses and
help to easily switch focus between distances.
