💚 Some of our team had the privilege of attending the Glynnview Multi-Professional Practice Symposium on 25–26 July.

As dietitians, we believe that ongoing professional development is essential to providing our patients with the highest standard of care.

The symposium offered valuable insights into the important role that all healthcare professionals play in supporting patients with psychiatric conditions. We also enjoyed learning more about the fascinating gut-brain axis, as well as discussing ethical considerations in professional practice.

We're grateful for the opportunity to learn, grow, and collaborate with other healthcare professionals, and we're already looking forward to attending again next year!

🥕Why is vitamin A important
Your skin, lungs, and intestinal lining are your first line of defence, and they all need vitamin A to be strong.

🍠It aids in:
• Maintain healthy skin and mucous membranes (a barrier against infection)
• Support immune cell function
• Lessen the severity of infections when adequate; and
• Promote good vision (plus 👀)

💡 Clinical insight: Avoid high-dose supplements unless prescribed, especially during pregnancy, as both excess and deficiency can be dangerous.

To boost your immunity, eat your colours. 🌈

❄️ Winter hydration check! ❄️

Did you know that feeling thirsty isn't the first sign of dehydration?

Watch out for these signs:
• Dry lips or mouth
• Headaches
• Feeling tired or sluggish
• Dark yellow urine
• Difficulty concentrating

A simple goal is to sip water consistently throughout the day instead of waiting until you're thirsty.

Small sips throughout the day make a big difference! 💙

❄️ Hydration doesn't always have to be cold!❄️

Staying hydrated in winter can be warm, comforting, and delicious.

Here are a few dietitian-approved ideas:
🥣 Homemade vegetable soup
🍵 Rooibos or herbal tea
🍋 Warm water with lemon
🥛 Warm low-fat milk
🍎 Fresh fruit such as apples, pears, oranges, and naartjies

Remember: Tea and soups can still contribute to your daily fluid intake, but it's a good idea to balance them with plenty of water throughout the day.

Keep sipping, stay warm, and look after your health this winter! 💙

❄️ Don't forget to hydrate this winter! ❄️

When the weather is cold, we often don't feel as thirsty—but your body still needs plenty of fluids to function at its best.

Staying hydrated can help:
💧 Maintain your energy levels
🧠 Support concentration
🌿 Keep your skin healthy
🍽️ Aid digestion
🛡️ Support your immune system

Try these simple hydration tips:
☕ Enjoy warm herbal teas.
🥣 Include soups and broths in your meals.
🍊 Eat water-rich fruits like oranges and naartjies.
🚰 Keep a water bottle nearby as a reminder to sip throughout the day.

Your body needs hydration in every season— not just summer!

Have you noticed that you're hungrier during winter? You're not imagining it, but the reason isn't always as simple as "it's cold."

Winter can influence our appetite through changes in temperature, sleep, mood, daily routine, and the amount of time we spend indoors. Sometimes your body genuinely needs nourishment, while other times you're seeking warmth, comfort, or stimulation.

There's no shame in enjoying comforting foods, they absolutely have a place in a healthy lifestyle. The goal is simply to become more aware of what your body is asking for. 🥗

Comfort eating is not a lack of willpower—it’s often a response to stress, sadness, boredom, or fatigue. Learning to recognize the difference between emotional hunger and physical hunger is the first step toward a healthier relationship with food.

Your relationship with food is a journey, and every small step counts 💚
