Did you know your cornea gets most of its oxygen directly from the air? 👁️
Unlike most tissues in the body, the cornea has no blood vessels - helping it stay clear and transparent so light can pass through efficiently.
Instead, oxygen from the atmosphere dissolves into the tear film and reaches the cornea.
This is also why corneal health can be affected by:
• Contact lenses that limit oxygen transmission
• Sleeping in contact lenses
• Dry or poorly ventilated environments
• Poor air quality and environmental irritants
• An unhealthy or unstable tear film
The cornea may be transparent, but its health should never be overlooked.
Healthy cornea. Healthy ocular surface. Clearer vision. 🤍
