If you experience a full or heavy feeling in one or both ears, debilitating tinnitus and episodes of vertigo, it could be Ménière's disease.

Because the condition can affect hearing and balance over many years, it often requires ongoing management from both an audiologist and ENT.

This week we celebrated two birthdays at Hoffman Audiology.

Andrea and Thando are two of the people who make this practice feel like home, for our patients and for each other.

Andrea holds the accounts and admin side together, steady work that keeps everything moving even when nobody's watching.

Thando, our receptionist, is often the first face our patients see. Welcoming them in, she helps with appointments, repairs, cleans and checks along the way.

Knowing there are different types of vertigo is the first step.

We use a range of specialised tests that look at how different parts of your balance system are working. This helps us either rule out or confirm the likely cause and guide you on what comes next.

↳ For most conditions, that means vestibular rehabilitation here with us.
↳ For some, like vestibular paroxysmia, the right path involves a neurologist and medication.
↳ For others, like PPPD, where fear of another episode ends up keeping the dizziness going, counselling alongside what we do here often makes the real difference.

Either way, we guide you through it.

If the spinning is severe, constant and lasts for days ➡️ it could be vestibular neuritis (or labyrinthitis if hearing loss is also present).

These conditions can cause relentless vertigo, vomiting and difficulty standing or walking, and need proper assessment and medical treatment.

Even after the worst spinning settles, balance symptoms can linger and flare when you are stressed, run down, or not sleeping well.

This is not one to ignore.
