Gas gangrene is a severe bacterial infection that rapidly damages muscle and soft tissue. It is most commonly caused by Clostridium bacteria entering deep wounds, often after trauma, surgery, burns, or when blood supply to tissue is poor.

As the bacteria grow, they produce toxins and gas within the tissue, allowing the infection to spread quickly and potentially become life-threatening if not treated urgently.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is used alongside emergency surgery and antibiotics to help manage this condition. By delivering 100% oxygen under increased pressure, HBOT creates an oxygen-rich environment where the bacteria responsible for gas gangrene struggle to survive.

At the same time, it improves oxygen delivery to damaged tissue and supports the body’s natural ability to fight infection and heal. 💙
