🦠 RSV Season – What Parents Should Know

RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) is one of the most common respiratory infections we see in babies and young children this time of year.

Most children develop mild cold-like symptoms. However, in infants — especially under 2 years — it can sometimes lead to bronchiolitis or breathing difficulty.

Seek medical review if your child has:
• Fast or laboured breathing
• Chest pulling in under the ribs
• Poor feeding
• Unusual sleepiness
• Persistent fever

Babies born prematurely or with underlying lung or heart conditions are at higher risk.

When in doubt, it’s always better to have your child assessed early.

🤢 Vomiting in children is common — dehydration is the real risk

Most vomiting in children is caused by viral infections and improves with time and fluids.

🚨 Seek medical attention urgently if your child:
• Cannot keep any fluids down
• Has little or no urine (dry nappies >8 hours)
• Has a dry mouth or no tears when crying
• Is very sleepy, floppy, or difficult to wake
• Has blood or green vomit
• Has severe or worsening abdominal pain

💧 Offer small, frequent sips of oral rehydration solution.
