When most people hear “good posture,” they picture sitting bolt upright, shoulders back, chest out… and trying to hold that for hours.

But honestly? That’s exhausting.

Good posture isn’t about finding one perfect position and sticking to it all day. It’s about giving your body variety and letting it move.

Stand up every now and then. Stretch a bit. Walk to refill your water bottle. Even just shifting positions while you work makes a difference.

Your body isn’t meant to be frozen in one “perfect” posture.
So next time someone tells you to “sit up straight,” just remember this:

The best posture is your next posture.

We've all said it.
"I must've slept funny."

And sometimes... that's true.
But if you're waking up with the same stiff neck or sore back day after day, it's probably worth looking a little deeper.

It could be how you're sitting at your desk, how much you're moving during the day, muscle tension that's been building up over time, or even stress.

Your body doesn't suddenly reset when you go to bed. It carries the day with it.
So before you blame your pillow again, ask yourself:

Has my body been trying to tell me something for a while now?

One of our favourite moments is hearing a patient say,

"I could finally do it again."

Whether "it" is a round of golf, a walk with the dogs, picking up a grandchild, or getting through a workday without that constant ache, it reminds us why we do what we do.

Pain relief is important. But getting your life back?
That's what really matters.

If you've been to physio before, you've probably heard us say some of these things.
Not because they're clichés. Because they're true.

The little decisions you make between appointments often have the biggest impact on your recovery. That's why we spend just as much time helping you understand your body as we do treating it.

When you know why you're doing something, it's a whole lot easier to stick with it.
And that's where real progress starts.

Ever caught yourself clenching your jaw without even realising it?
Most of us have.

Here's something surprising...
The masseter, the muscle that helps you chew, is one of the strongest muscles in your body for its size. It can generate an incredible amount of force, which is why stress often shows up here before you even notice it.

A tight jaw can sometimes be linked to:
• headaches
• neck tension
• facial pain
• even sore shoulders

Your body is connected in clever ways. Sometimes the problem isn't where you feel it.
It's where it started.

The first 30 seconds of your appointment are often some of the most important.

Before we ask where it hurts, we're already observing how you move. Not to judge you, but because your body leaves clues everywhere.

The way you walk into the room.
The way you sit down.
The way you naturally stand or reach for your bag.

These everyday movements help us understand how your body is adapting, protecting itself, or compensating for something else.

That's why a physiotherapy assessment is about so much more than finding the sore spot. It's about understanding the whole story.
Because the better we understand how your body moves, the better we can help it recover.

That little ache in your shoulder.
The knee that only complains after a run.
The stiff neck you put down to "sleeping funny."

Small pains have a way of getting brushed aside because they're still manageable.
But pain is often your body's way of saying, "Something has changed."

It doesn't always mean there's a serious injury. Sometimes it's a muscle working overtime, a joint that's not moving as well as it should, or your body compensating for something else entirely.

The sooner you understand what's causing it, the easier it often is to address before it starts affecting the things you love doing.

You don't have to wait until you're avoiding the gym, saying no to a game of tennis, or dreading the stairs.

Sometimes, a small pain is simply a big clue that your body could use a little attention.

Pain is weird.

Two people can have similar injuries and experience them completely differently. Pain can show up somewhere other than the actual problem. It can hang around after tissues have healed. And sometimes, a really painful day doesn’t mean you’ve damaged something all over again.

That’s because pain isn’t a simple damage meter.

It’s your body’s protection system, and that system is influenced by more than just the sore spot. Your injury, nervous system, movement, sleep, stress and previous experiences can all play a part.

This is why we don’t believe in simply chasing wherever it hurts.

At Veldtman & Claassen Physiotherapy, we look at the bigger picture, help you understand what may be driving your pain, and work out what your body actually needs to move forward.

Because pain can be confusing.

Your recovery plan shouldn’t be.

Your knee sounds like a bowl of Rice Krispies every time you stand up.
Should you be worried? 😅

Not necessarily.

Knees can click or pop for a few different reasons. Sometimes it’s simply gas bubbles moving within the joint fluid. Sometimes a tendon or ligament is moving over a bony area. And sometimes it’s just one of those noises your body makes without anything actually being wrong.

The sound itself usually isn’t the part we’re most interested in.
What matters is what comes with it.

If your knee clicks without pain, swelling, locking or giving way, it’s often nothing to panic about. But if the noise comes with any of those symptoms, or you’ve noticed a change in how the knee feels or moves, that’s worth paying attention to.

So no, a noisy knee doesn’t automatically mean a damaged knee.
But a noisy knee that’s also complaining? That deserves a closer look.

Some recovery advice gets passed around so often that it starts sounding like fact.

"No pain, no gain."
"Just rest it."
"It's my age."

Sound familiar? 🧐

The problem is that every body, every injury, and every recovery journey is different. What helps one person could keep someone else stuck.

At Veldtman & Claassen Physiotherapy, we spend a lot of time helping people separate recovery facts from recovery fiction. Because getting better shouldn't be based on myths, guesswork, or advice from that one friend who's suddenly an expert after watching three YouTube videos. 😌

It should be based on what your body actually needs.
