DOLLY PARTON | 1946 - 2026

Today the world says goodbye to one of the most remarkable voices of our time. Dolly Parton has passed away at the age of 80.

For me, this one feels personal.

I have such fond memories of growing up with Dolly’s music. Her songs were simply part of life, playing in our homes, on the radio and on long drives. That unmistakable voice carries memories of another time, and hearing those songs today can take you straight back there.

Dolly was so much more than the rhinestones and the famous blonde hair. She was a gifted songwriter, a woman of faith, warmth and extraordinary generosity whose music crossed countries and generations. Even here in South Africa, her music became part of our own memories.

Today, songs such as Jolene, Coat of Many Colors, Islands in the Stream and I Will Always Love You suddenly carry a little more meaning.

The voice may have fallen silent, but the music never will.

Thank you, Dolly, for being part of the soundtrack of my childhood, and of millions of lives around the world.
