Department of Health Engages Lerona High School Learners on Teenage Pregnancy & Substance Abuse

The Lekwa-Teemane Sub-District Department of Health visited Lerona High School in Christiana to engage learners on two critical issues affecting youth: Teenage Pregnancy and Substance Abuse.

The session aimed to equip learners with knowledge, life skills, and information about available health services. Learners were given an opportunity to ask questions freely in a safe and non-judgmental space.

Topics covered:
Prevention of teenage pregnancy and access to youth-friendly clinic services
Risks of alcohol, drugs, and substance abuse
Mental health, peer pressure, and making healthy choices
Where to get help: clinic, school nurse, CHWs, social workers

CLINICAL HEALTH SERVICES OUTREACH: BLOEMHOF KLEITERSKOOL

The Clinical Health Services team conducted an outreach program at Bloemhof Kleiterskool.

Services Rendered:
Vitamin A supplementation
De-worming

Target Group: Children between the ages of 12 – 59 months.

The outreach was aimed at improving child health and preventing micronutrient deficiencies and worm infestations in the community.

The meeting was held to:
Audit and reflect on planned activities versus achievements
Ensure that all facilities are visitor-friendly and remain ready at all times
Strengthen inter-sub district collaboration and support

Officials from the following sub-districts conducted facility visits to identify challenges and compile reports:
Naledi Sub-District
Mamusa Sub-District
Greater Taung Sub-District
Kagisano-Molopo Sub-District

The purpose of the visits was to identify problems encountered at facilities and provide feedback for improvement.

4. Way Forward
In his closing remarks, Acting Chief Director Mr. Gaetsosiwe directed that:
Operational Managers must identify Indicator Champions in their facilities
Mental Health Coordinators must be included in reviews
Technical Teams must be formed to identify, analyze, and compile reports for District Reviews

5. Conclusion
The meeting was fruitful. It provided an opportunity to assess progress, address gaps, and set clear actions to ensure service readiness and quality care at all facilities.
