❤️👟 Our Shoe Drive is still open, and we’re continuing to accept donations.

A pair of shoes may seem like a small gift, but for someone in need, it can mean comfort, dignity, confidence, and the ability to take each day one step at a time.

If you have new or gently used shoes to spare, we would be incredibly grateful for your support. Every donation helps us reach more people and reminds them that their community cares.

Thank you to everyone who has donated, shared, and encouraged others to give. Your kindness is making a real difference, one pair of shoes at a time.

Preventive Care Isn’t Just for Older Men

This idea is a persistent misconception that can quietly undermine long-term health outcomes.
Preventive care is not age-restricted, it is a lifelong strategy that focuses on identifying risks early, preventing disease before it starts, and catching conditions when they are most treatable.

For many people, preventive care is wrongly associated with screenings of conditions that are prevalent later in life which leads to younger men believing they can safely ignore routine health visits.
The reality is that preventive care is not about age. A man in his 20s or 30s who develops unmanaged high blood pressure is not “too young to worry”—he is on a path where early intervention could prevent serious cardiovascular disease later in life.
The earlier you start, the more you protect your future self. 💙

Whether you’re in your 30s, 50s, or beyond, keep this checklist handy for your next primary care visit.

✅High blood pressure is often called the “silent killer” because it typically causes no noticeable symptoms while increasing the risk of heart disease, stroke, and kidney disease.

Consider asking your doctor:
• What is a healthy blood pressure range for someone with my age, health history, and lifestyle?
• What lifestyle changes can I make to help lower or manage my blood pressure naturally?

✅High cholesterol can develop quietly and affect people of all ages—not just older adults. Regular cholesterol screenings are especially important if you have a family history of heart disease.

Consider asking your doctor:
• What are my current cholesterol levels, and do they fall within a healthy range?
• How often should I have my cholesterol checked based on my age, health, and risk factors?

✅Mental health is a vital part of overall well-being, yet it is often overlooked in discussions about men’s health. Prioritizing your emotional and psychological health is just as important as caring for your physical health.

Consider asking your doctor:
•Are there effective resources or strategies available to help manage stress and anxiety?
•What are the common signs and symptoms of depression that I should watch for?

✅Colon cancer is one of the most preventable forms of cancer when detected early through routine screening. Staying proactive about screening can help identify potential issues before they become serious.

Consider asking your doctor:
•Which colon cancer screening option is most appropriate for me based on my age and risk factors?
•How often should I be screened for colon cancer to maintain optimal health?

✅Small lifestyle changes can have a lasting impact on your overall health. Eating nutritious foods, staying physically active, and getting enough quality sleep are all important steps.

Consider asking your doctor:
• What is the one lifestyle change that would have the greatest positive impact on my health?
• Do you recommend any vitamins or supplements based on my age, health status, or lifestyle?

Ages 20–39: Laying the Foundation for Long-Term Health

Although young men often feel at their healthiest, this is exactly when they should prioritize healthy habits and obtain baseline health data for the future.

* Physical exam: Every 3 years
* Blood pressure: Twice a year
* Cholesterol test: Start between ages 20–35; every 5 years if normal (more often if you smoke, are overweight, or have a family history)
* Testicular self-exam: Monthly
* Vision test: Yearly
* EKG: May be recommended from age 30
* Hepatitis C screening: One-time test between ages 18–79

Ages 40–49: Making Prevention a Priority

As metabolism decreases and susceptibility to health conditions increases, screening efforts become more regular and focused.

* Physical exam: Every 2 years
* Blood pressure check: Every year
* Diabetes screening: Start at age 35–45, especially if overweight or inactive
* Colorectal cancer screening: Begin at age 45; colonoscopy every 10 years if low risk
* Prostate health: Discuss screening in your 40s; earlier for African American men and those with a family history
* Eye exam: Around age 40 to detect vision changes and eye disease
* Heart health assessment: Start at age 45 includes cholesterol, blood sugar, family history, and smoking risk evaluation.

Ages 50 and Older: Comprehensive Preventive Care

This is a time when annual screening matters more than ever. Many conditions become more common with age, and early detection offers the best opportunity for effective management.

* Annual Physicals: Yearly check-ups.
* Blood Pressure & Diabetes: Test annually or as advised.
* Colorectal Cancer Screening: Continue until at least age 75; colonoscopy every 10 years.
* Prostate Cancer Screening: Discuss PSA testing and exams with your doctor.
* Skin Checks: Yearly screening for suspicious moles or skin changes.
* Bone Health: Bone density testing may be needed, especially after 70 or earlier if at risk.
* Eye Exams: Every 1–2 years after age 65.
* Hearing Tests: Every 3 years after age 50.
* Lung Cancer Screening: Annual low-dose CT for eligible current or former smokers aged 50–80.

🩵 Men’s Mental Health Matters

This Men’s Health Month, let’s recognize that strength isn’t about carrying everything alone. Mental health challenges affect millions of men, yet many struggle in silence due to stigma, pressure, or fear of being judged.

It’s okay to:
✔️ Talk about how you’re feeling
✔️ Ask for help when you need it
✔️ Take breaks and prioritize your wellbeing
✔️ Set boundaries
✔️ Seek professional support

Mental health is just as important as physical health. Checking in with a friend, opening up to someone you trust, or reaching out to a mental health professional can make a meaningful difference.

Remember: speaking up is a sign of courage, not weakness

June is men’s health

Today’s focus? Testosterone myths vs facts

Myths:
1. Testosterone decline is mainly caused by aging
2. Annual blood tests will always detect low testosterone
3. Testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) is a cure-all solution.

Facts:
While testosterone levels naturally decline with age, other factors such as chronic health conditions, injuries, infections, and certain medications can also contribute to low testosterone.
Standard blood tests may not always provide a complete assessment, and a total testosterone test may be needed for accurate evaluation.
Although testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) can be effective for those with clinically low levels, maintaining healthy lifestyle habits which play an important role in supporting hormone health and overall well-being.

Understanding testosterone health involves looking beyond age alone and having accurate diagnoses and identifying underlying causes.
