At Thrive at Home, we believe that exceptional care starts with well-supported, well-trained carers.

Last month, we had the privilege of welcoming Stoma Nurse Jane from Coloplast, who spent time with our care team providing practical training on stoma care. The session covered everything from understanding different types of stomas to best practices for hygiene, recognising potential complications, and, most importantly, helping clients feel comfortable, respected, and confident in their daily lives.

Ongoing training like this is an important part of how we invest in our carers. By continually developing their knowledge and skills, we're able to provide our clients with compassionate, professional care that promotes dignity, independence, and peace of mind.

A heartfelt thank you to Jane and Coloplast for sharing your expertise with our team. Together, we're helping people thrive at home.

At Thrive at Home, we believe that caring for people goes beyond providing healthcare.

For this year’s Mandela Day, Dr Cobus spent the day helping with maintenance at the homes of some of our clients, free of charge. From repairs and odd jobs to fixing the little things that can make a big difference, it was simply another way of helping people remain safe, comfortable and independent in the homes they love.

Sometimes care means medical support. Sometimes it means companionship. And sometimes it means picking up a toolbox and lending a hand.

It's all part of our commitment to helping people not just live at home, but truly thrive at home.

Because care isn't just what we do. It's who we are.

🎲🌍 Happy International Day of Play! 🌍🎲

When we think about play, we often think about children.

But play is just as important as we grow older.

That's why at Thrive at Home, our carers don't just receive clinical training. They also learn and practise games and activities that they can enjoy with clients because we believe that play is part of thriving.

Research shows that play can improve mood, strengthen social connections, support cognitive function, and create a greater sense of belonging in older adults. One of the longest studies of aging in the world, the Harvard Study of Adult Development, identified rediscovering how to play as one of the key ingredients for joyful aging.

Whether it's a card game, a puzzle, a quiz, a walk filled with laughter, or simply sharing a playful moment together, these experiences help keep us connected, engaged and living well.

Because thriving isn't just about receiving care.

It's about finding joy.
It's about connection.
It's about purpose.

And sometimes, it's about playing a game.

"We live until we die!" One of my favorite quotes. On this earth you never stop living, until you die - the question is therefore how well are you living and what do you need to truly feel alive?

Would truly love to hear from your "philosophical" side 🧐

🌟 Welcome to Thrive at Home! 🌟

Proudly born and bred in Fish Hoek, we’re revolutionizing care in South Africa!

After 35 years of phenomenal service, Fish Hoek Home Nursing closed an amazing chapter of care for the Peninsula. At the same time, the founders of Mobile Frail Care decided to shift focus away from their incredible mobile home-based services.

Seeing the opportunity to rethink aging—and the care that goes with it—Dr. Cobus Oosthuizen and team brought together staff from both companies, plus a range of specialists: OTs, physios, social workers, speech therapists, doctors, and our beloved CMR. Together, we are building an industry where people truly thrive at home.

Our vision is simple: turn homes into spaces of comfort, safety, and dignity. Equip families with mind-blowing training for dementia, end-of-life care, and daily support. Help those who crave independence to live life fully, for as long as possible.

Because thriving isn’t just about surviving—it’s about feeling like yourself, staying connected, living with purpose, finding joy, and yes… having fun!

From today, this page will also have a new look to support this vision and will be your hub for articles, videos, and podcasts that help us all rethink the one thing we were born with: aging. In the weeks ahead, we’ll introduce our new website, meet our amazing carers, and share the specialists who form the heart of our team.

This is a new era for care…for aging…for South Africa.

Proudly Deep South. Proudly Thrive at Home.

Simple Tip for the week!

One of the biggest fall risks for older adults?
Poor lighting.

A small lamp in a hallway or bathroom can make a big difference at night.

Have you made any small changes at home that helped your parents? Please let us know - let's share what works!

It’s been a little quiet here lately — and for good reason.

The past few months have been full of caring, learning, and planning behind the scenes.

We’re excited to start sharing more again — practical tips, stories, and insights about caring for our older loved ones at home.

If you are caring for a parent or loved one, we’d love to know:
What is the one thing you find most challenging?
