Let me tell you! Being a woman is flippen hard work.
We're expected to run the home while looking like a Victoria's Secret model. Then finish the week's washing before hosting a last-minute braai.
Then, just to keep life interesting, you regret putting on your favorite stone-coloured leggings that already felt two sizes too small this morning because your period decides now is the perfect time to arrive while you're trapped in the Woolies queue, praying the old man in front can find his Rewards card on his app real soon.
Somewhere along the way we've been sold the idea that we have to do it all.
Perfectly. With a smile and no complaints.
I want to remind you today that:
It's perfectly OK to say, "Enough."
It's totally cool to say, "Sorry, not today."
It's OK to declare, "I'm taking the weekend off," and let someone else take care of dinner.
This Women's Month, let's celebrate how far we've come. The barriers we've broken. The women who walked before us, and the legacy we're creating for those who'll follow.
But let's also celebrate something else.
Slow mornings watching the sun rise.
Comfy clothes that you won't want to go out in.
Coffee in bed while scrolling funny cat movies.
Messy kitchens and unfinished to-do lists that can wait.
Permission to simply be.
So here's to women lifting one another up instead of expecting perfection from ourselves.
We're all walking this beautiful, exhausting, extraordinary journey together.
Happy Women's Day.
Best wishes,
Nadya
