🌱 Dietitian Position – Hospital & Outpatient Based 🌱

We are a busy, well-established dietetic practice based in the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town and are looking to welcome a motivated dietitian to our growing team.

This is a full-time opportunity, although part-time and locum candidates are also very welcome to get in touch.

📍 Location
Northern Suburbs of Cape Town – Kuils River and Cape Gate areas

✨ About the role

- Inpatient and outpatient clinical dietetics
- Exposure to a broad range of medical, surgical and cardiac patients
- Experience within a large cardiac hospital environment
- Strong focus on diabetes management and education
- Patient counselling and follow-up
- Working independently as well as part of a supportive multidisciplinary team

💙 Our special interest: Diabetes

We have a strong interest in diabetes care and education, making this an ideal opportunity for someone who:

- Has a genuine interest in diabetes care, or is eager to learn and grow in this field
- Enjoys patient education and developing long-term relationships with patients
- Is open to further training or studies in diabetes over time

👩‍⚕️ We’re looking for someone who:

- Is an HPCSA-registered dietitian – newly qualified dietitians are welcome to apply
- Is enthusiastic, curious and clinically driven
- Enjoys patient counselling and education
- Works well within a team but is also confident working independently
- Is professional, reliable and keen to grow

Training and support will be provided, particularly for candidates who are still developing their clinical experience.

August is women's month, and if you are anything like most of the women we see in our rooms, you are probably better at looking after everyone else than you are at looking after yourself. 💛

It is a pattern we notice a lot. Meals get skipped so the kids can eat first. Sleep gets sacrificed for one more load of washing. "I will deal with my own health later" becomes the quiet, unspoken rule.

Here is the thing though: your body has different nutrition needs at different life stages, from your twenties right through to menopause, and those needs deserve the same attention you give everyone else's.

Something we are proud of this month: every single person on the Chrystal Slater Dietitians team is a woman. We are not just treating women's health, we live it too.

Grocery shopping has become strangely stressful lately.

One product says high protein. Another says low carb. Someone online says fruit has too much sugar. Now, apparently, oats are controversial, too. 😅

It is no wonder so many people feel overwhelmed by all the noise.

Healthy eating usually comes back to fairly simple basics: regular meals, enough protein, fibre-rich foods, and choices you can realistically afford and enjoy.

Winter has a way of changing everyone’s eating habits a little.

Suddenly, salads feel less appealing, warm carbs become irresistible, and tea with snacks starts feeling like emotional support. 😅

And honestly, that makes sense.

Healthy eating in winter does not mean forcing yourself into cold meals or feeling guilty for craving comfort food. Warm, balanced meals can absolutely support your health while still feeling satisfying.

Soup counts. Stew counts. A simple toasted sandwich with protein and veggies counts too.

'I will deal with it later' is a sentence many men say far too often when it comes to their health.

Pushing through exhaustion, stress, headaches, and a constant feeling of being run down becomes the norm until the body eventually forces a pause.

The encouraging part is that health does not need to start with extreme changes. Often, the basics make the biggest difference: Eat breakfast consistently, drink enough water
and take an actual lunch break.

Winter is the perfect season to give your gut a little extra love. 🥣

Warm, fibre-rich foods like oats, lentils, soups with legumes, and roasted vegetables are all great choices this time of year.

These foods support digestion, help you feel satisfied for longer, and can make energy dips a little less dramatic on cold days.

Fibre does not need to be complicated. A bowl of oats in the morning is already a solid start.

Think cutting back on salt is just about putting down the salt shaker at dinner? You’re definitely not alone.

A lot of the salt we eat actually sneaks in through everyday foods like:
* Sauces
* Processed meats
* Soups
* Takeaways
* Salty snacks 👀

The good news? Looking after your blood pressure does not mean eating bland food or changing everything overnight.

Small, realistic habits really do make a difference over time:
✔️ Comparing labels when you can
✔️ Cooking at home a little more often
✔️ Choosing lower-salt options where possible
✔️ Using herbs, spices, lemon or garlic for flavour instead of extra salt

Health is not about being perfect all the time. It is about the small things you come back to most often.
