🧠What an incredible weekend of presenting the "The Neuroscience Behind Parenting Styles" crash-course!
Thank you to every parent who showed up, bared their souls, and looked at their worst parenting moments through the lens of biology. We laughed, we normalized the chaos, and we got insight into understanding why parenting scripts don't work when our own bodies and nervous systems try to protect us from the chaos of parenting.
👉🏼 You can have the most perfect parenting script memorized word-for-word, but if your amygdala has already hijacked your brain, that script gets tossed out the window faster than a toddler's veggies.
🧠 The Weekend Wrap-Up (In Neuro-Terms)
🔴 We acknowledged our urge to fight/ flight: Thank you for being brave enough to admit that when your toddler threw their dinner (that you lovingly prepared) off the table, your brain genuinely reacted as if you were being attacked by Rodger the dodgy robber.
🔵 We validated the Freeze: To the parents who realized their "permissive" moments are actually just their nervous system staging a temporary strike—we see you, and we honor your need to survive the afternoon.
💡 The Big Takeaway:
Your kids don’t need perfect parents who never get triggered. They need parents who know how to find their way back to their own nervous system safety. You cannot co-regulate a child when you are dysregulated yourself. The need for self-regulation isn't selfish; it is the actual foundation for showing up as a safe, connected and regulated grownup for yourself and for your child.
🤍 Thank you for trusting me with your stories, your triggers, and your neuroanatomy this weekend. You are all doing a neuro-bashing good job.
