📢 VACANCY: ENROLLED NURSE

The Open Circle – Maitland, Cape Town
Nursing Shift Pattern: 07:00–19:00

The Open Circle is looking for a dedicated and compassionate Enrolled Nurse to join our multidisciplinary team supporting adults with intellectual disabilities, autism and challenging behaviour.

The Enrolled Nurse will provide clinical nursing care while also taking on a shift-leader role, supervising caregivers and household staff and assisting with the management of physical and psychiatric needs after hours and over weekends.

Minimum requirements:
🩺 Current registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC)
🧠 Clinical experience in Disability and/or Mental Health
🗣️ Ability to speak two of the three official languages of the Western Cape, with proficiency in English required
💊 Competence in medication administration, clinical care and medico-legal record keeping
🤝 Strong communication, leadership and organisational skills

Experience working with people with Intellectual Disability and/or Psychiatry, particularly challenging behaviour, as well as experience supervising staff, students or volunteers, will be advantageous.

The Open Circle – Maitland, Cape Town
1-Year Contract | Working Hours: 08:00–13:00

The Open Circle is looking for a compassionate, organised and motivated Social Worker to join our multidisciplinary team.

The successful candidate will provide professional psychosocial support to adults with intellectual disabilities, autism and challenging behaviour, while working closely with their families and the broader clinical team.

The role includes case management, counselling, family liaison, assessments, care planning, community outreach and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Minimum requirements:
🎓 Degree in Social Work
📋 Current registration with the SACSSP
🚗 Valid driver’s licence and willingness to use own vehicle when required
🗣️ Fluency in at least two of the three official languages of the Western Cape (English required)

Experience within Intellectual Disability and/or Psychiatry, particularly challenging behaviour, will be advantageous.

The Open Circle is looking for a motivated and compassionate Community Rehabilitation Worker (CRW) to join our team.

The successful candidate will work under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist and assist with the implementation of person-centred therapeutic programmes for adults with intellectual disabilities, autism and challenging behaviour.

Minimum requirement:
🎓 Certificate/Diploma in Community Rehabilitation or equivalent

Experience working within Intellectual Disability and/or Psychiatry, particularly with challenging behaviour, will be advantageous.

Today, our residents took part in a special Mandela Day outreach initiative. 💛

At The Open Circle, we are incredibly grateful for the many blessings we receive, and we believe it is equally important to create opportunities for our residents to experience the joy and meaning of giving back.

Together, we buttered bread, prepared a warm homemade soup, and visited the hospital to hand out meals to members of our community. It was a beautiful day of teamwork, kindness, purpose and connection.

A small act of service can make a meaningful difference. This Mandela Day, we were reminded that everyone has something valuable to give. 🇿🇦

TOP Dogs visited The Open Circle, and we enjoyed such a meaningful and joy-filled session together. 🐾

As part of our current Healthy Food Series, our residents have been learning about different foods and how to group them into categories such as fruits and vegetables, healthy and less healthy options, and “always foods” versus “sometimes foods.”

During this visit, the dogs arrived with their very own snack packs filled with a variety of healthy foods that are safe for dogs to eat. We began the session with a group game of Healthy Foods Bingo, where residents identified the food items, matched them to the pictures on their bingo cards, and then found the same food item in the dogs’ snack box. Once the item was identified, residents had the opportunity to feed it to the dogs.

We do sessions like this because learning is most meaningful when it is practical, engaging, and connected to real-life experiences. By combining healthy food education with animal-assisted activity, residents are supported to develop important skills in a fun and motivating way.

This session encouraged food recognition, categorisation, communication, participation, turn-taking, choice-making, and positive social interaction. Most importantly, it created a safe and joyful space for residents to learn, connect, and experience success.

The Open Circle is looking for a dedicated and compassionate Enrolled Nurse to join our team.

The Open Circle is a group home based in Maitland, Cape Town, providing care for adults with intellectual disabilities, autism, dual diagnoses, and challenging behaviour in a less-restrictive, homely environment.

Position: Enrolled Nurse
Shift pattern: 07h00 – 19h00
Starting date: As soon as possible
Location: The Open Circle, Grounds of Alexandra Hospital, Maitland

The successful candidate will act as a shift leader and form part of a multidisciplinary care team supporting 30 adult residents.

Key requirements include:

Registered with the Nursing Council of South Africa
Valid South African driver’s licence
3–5 years’ clinical experience, preferably in disability and/or mental health
Strong communication and leadership skills
Ability to work under pressure
Computer literacy in Microsoft Word

Experience in working with individuals with intellectual disabilities, psychiatry, challenging behaviour, and staff supervision will be advantageous.

Certified copy of ID and driver’s licence
Certified copy of Matric certificate, nursing qualification, and SANC registration
1 written reference
