It might be cold outside but at the Oasis Care Centre we are keeping warm by being busy… and no, it is never too cold for our residents to enjoy their ice cream!

Being out and about irrespective of the weather is part of what we believe in at Oasis Care Centre, “Carpe Diem” – and seizing the day is exactly what our residents are doing.

Mondays after shopping we head out for ice cream at the beach come rain or shine! The offer for some hot coffee instead of ice cream is always politely but firmly declined. On Tuesdays, our residents go where the bus takes them which is usually a lovely coffee shop with an array of delectable cakes. Wednesdays are quiz days.
On Thursdays things heat up even more– to such an extent that we must switch the fireplace off. This is when we have either Peter Wyness getting everyone up and dancing with his amazing selection of songs, or another performer. And yes, everyone dances as though no one is watching! In between everything else, the therapy dogs visit, art therapy classes take place, baking sessions and flower arranging are facilitated and seriously competitive Rummikub matches take place. On Fridays we tone things down with shopping and bingo, while preparing for a weekend with friends and for family visits.

We dECLARE that no event is the same without Virginia's ECLAIRs.

Oasis Care Centre has been blessed with having Chef Virginia at the helm of the kitchen for more than 17 years, preparing on average nearly 300 three-course meals per day with the assistance of her wonderful team.

She started her career at the Lord Charles Hotel at the young age of 19 where she learned many skills, one being to make the most delectable eclairs. During the winter months she loves preparing lovely curry dishes and she herself enjoys any kind of roast.

Virginia lives her life with kindness and has an open heart for all the Care Centre residents and patients and she really enjoys making something special for those who need that extra bit of TLC.

Virginia goes home to her 4-year-old granddaughter Iyana, who runs to the gate as soon as she hears her "Umakhulu!" arriving. Virginia says the happy greeting makes her forget all about her weariness after a long day of work.

"Virginia is not only an excellent chef but also a quality human being who enriches the lives of all of us at Oasis Care Centre," says Care Centre Manager Lizzie Brynard-Brill.

It takes a Village

The same applies to the physical rehabilitation process at the Oasis Care Centre. To ensure optimal recovery and rehabilitation post-hospitalisation, it takes a team comprising various specialities, clear and ongoing communication, considerable behind-the-scenes effort, and a shared purpose to achieve a common goal.

We find such joy in seeing Residents who have benefited from our rehab and nursing teams’ interventions walking around the resort and enjoying the wonderful lifestyle Oasis Retirement Resort has to offer.

This February, we highlight Physiotherapy as a core therapeutic discipline within the sub-acute rehabilitation programme at Oasis Care Centre.

The physiotherapy team at Oasis delivers structured, evidence-based sub-acute rehabilitation. Each programme is guided by clinical reasoning and functional goals, ensuring patients are safe for discharge, equipped with appropriate assistive devices, and confident in managing daily life as independently as possible.

Physiotherapy at Oasis is about turning recovery into function, confidence, and readiness for life beyond the Care Centre.

This February, we highlight Physiotherapy as a core therapeutic discipline within the sub-acute rehabilitation programme at Oasis Care Centre.

Bidding Sr Robertson a fond farewell after 11 years of blessing the Oasis Physical Rehab patients and team with her vast experience, guidance, and knowledge.

Throughout her 44 years of nursing, Sr Mary Robertson always conducted herself with the conviction of “The patient first”. During her employment, she was also passionate about upholding the company’s reputation by sharing the same value system.

Go well, Sr Robertson – you will be missed and spoken about for many years to come.
