Most places offer everything. We offer one thing — a structured eight-week proprietary therapy process — and nothing else.

That's deliberate. A defined path with a real endpoint is what turns "feeling a bit better" into progress that lasts.

It's the most affordable option we could build, with longer sessions than most, and a method with a track record.

Small on ego. Big on impact.

Have you ever shared something hard — and walked away feeling smaller for having said it?

You open up about something heavy. Something vulnerable. And before you've even finished, the other person is already talking. "Oh, that happened to me too." "You think that's bad — my sister went through…" "At least it wasn't…"

They usually mean well. Most people redirect because they're trying to relate, to help, to show they understand. But somewhere in that turn, you quietly disappear from your own story. The moment stops being about what you're feeling and becomes about them, or about someone else entirely.

So you walk away not feeling heard. Not seen. Wondering why you said anything at all.

We want you to know: that feeling is valid. To be listened to — actually listened to — is not a small thing. It's one of the deepest human needs there is.

Real listening doesn't rush to relate. It doesn't compare, top, or fix. It stays. It says "that sounds really hard — tell me more," and then it's quiet enough to let you finish. It lets your experience remain yours, without borrowing it.

If you've been carrying something and haven't felt truly met in it, that's exactly the kind of listening you'll find with us. You deserve to be heard in the moment — not spoken over 💛

A meeting that stayed with us.

Recently, our Founder and Lead Therapist, Lucinda J. Valentine, sat down at our Northern Suburbs office with author Dominique Olivier — and what began as an introduction to her new book quietly became one of the more moving moments of the week.

The book is Lessons from Loss: Life on the Other Side of Grief (Penguin Random House). Part memoir, part guide, it grew out of Dominique's own profound loss and explores what it means to keep living — and to keep building a life — after grief reshapes everything.

One idea has already stayed with us: there is no hierarchy of loss. Grief reaches us in forms we could never anticipate, and no one's pain needs to be measured against another's to be real.

Lucinda is now reading it, and we already sense it will become a resource we return to again and again — for the many people who come to us carrying grief in all its different shapes.

Thank you, Dominique, for your honesty, your courage, and your generous words. 💙

📖 Lessons from Loss by Dominique Olivier is available now on Takealot and many other bookstores.

A quiet thank you to CAMAF 💛

We work with a lot of medical aids, and every so often one stands out for simply making things easy. CAMAF is one of those.

Their members claim for their therapy sessions with us without the back-and-forth, the queries, or the long waits that so often add stress to something that should be straightforward. Our session rates also sit within medical aid rates, which has meant CAMAF members claiming their sessions with us have been reimbursed in full — no shortfall to carry, no surprise gap to budget for.*

That matters more than it might sound. When the money side of therapy is uncomplicated, people stay in the process long enough to get the results they came for. Which is, in the end, the whole point.

So: thank you, CAMAF. For running a scheme that respects its members' time and their pockets, and for making our side of the work simpler too.

If you're a CAMAF member wondering whether therapy is within reach — it likely is. Have a chat with us.

*Subject to your available benefits.

Anxiety that shows up in your body before it shows up in your thoughts.

Burnout you've renamed as being busy. Grief that's older than people think it should be. A relationship you keep having the same argument in. Anger that arrives faster than it used to. Feeling flat about things that used to matter.

These are the reasons people sit down in our rooms. None of them require a diagnosis first.

If you recognised yourself in one of those lines, pop over to our website www.thetinyroomtherapy.com

You've been telling yourself it isn't bad enough yet.

That other people have it worse. That you should be able to manage this on your own. That you'll deal with it when things quiet down, which they haven't in about two years.

There's no severity threshold you have to cross before you're allowed to ask for help. If it's taking up room in your head, that's reason enough.

"Can I claim this?"

Yes. Most of our clients can, and do. We're a registered private therapy practice (Practice no. 1013505), practicing under procedure code 89205 — so your sessions can be submitted to your medical aid rather than coming entirely out of your own pocket.

Most people decide therapy is unaffordable based on a number they've never actually checked.

Comment COVER and we'll send you what to ask your scheme.

It's 2am. You're awake again, phone in hand, typing the questions you haven't said out loud to anyone.

You're not alone in that — literally. Google's own research found that anxiety-related searches peak at around 2am. And here's the part worth sitting with: those searches aren't coming from people in crisis. They're coming from people who are "fine." Good jobs. Full calendars. Holding it together beautifully on the outside, running on empty behind it.

If Sunday evenings come with a knot in your stomach, if you've become harder to reach even for the people you love, if "I'm just busy" has stopped sounding true — that's reason enough to talk to someone.

At The Tiny Room, therapy for adults isn't vague or open-ended. Our process runs over 8 structured sessions across 8 weeks, drawing on seven evidence-based approaches, with a clear starting point and a clear finish line.

We see clients in person in Bellville, serving Cape Town's Northern Suburbs, and online across South Africa or abroad.

You don't have to wait until 2am decides for you.
