Bitterness does not bury the pain — it spreads it.
Unforgiveness can begin with a real wound. Something happened. Someone hurt you. Trust was broken.
But if that pain is never brought into healing, the wound can become a root.
And roots grow.
They begin to shape how you see people, how you respond, how you love, how you trust, and how you carry yourself into new relationships.
That is why Scripture warns us:
“See to it that no root of bitterness springs up and causes trouble, and by it many become defiled.” — Hebrews 12:15
Bitterness rarely stays contained inside one heart.
It leaks into marriages.
Into families.
Into friendships.
Into ministry.
Into the next generation.
Forgiveness does not mean pretending the wound was acceptable.
It means refusing to let the wound keep controlling your future.
You can acknowledge the pain and still release the poison.
You can set boundaries and still forgive.
You can tell the truth and still choose freedom.
Do not let what hurt you become what shapes you.
Let God deal with the wound before the root grows deeper.
