With oceans usually between us, having my family together was a rare and precious gift. Our dynamic is definitely not short on chaos, but I’m grateful for every bit of it. There is something profoundly grounding about being with the people who hold your history. This time together was exactly what I needed to fill my cup for the year ahead.

This summer with my 12 year old son has felt like the golden hour of childhood, before the teenage years begin. I’ve found myself savouring these precious days while he still plays with his little brother, still shares his world with me and still seeks out time with his family. However, I can feel the landscape is shifting, and I’m learning to shift with it.

I love Kim John Payne’s framework for this parenting journey:
✨ Govern (0-5 years): Provide a safe, predictable harbour with loving authority.
✨ Garden (6-12 years): Cultivate character and nurture interests while weeding out bad habits.
✨ Guide (12+ years): Step back from managing to become more of a mentor.

As my son approaches his teens, I’m shifting my focus from the ‘doing’ of parenting to the ‘being’. It’s bittersweet, but it’s a privilege to watch him step into his own light.

🌊✨ Visiting my brother in St Monans is like stepping into a mindfulness app. Here, my nervous system finds its reset button and time slows down.

I feel fully present, free from the never-ending to-do list that can often fill my mind at home. Instead, we enjoy simple pleasures: playing games together, ambles along the coast and gathering in the kitchen to share stories, prepare meals and drink copious cups of tea.

One day I hope to host a retreat here to share the healing energy of this most special place.

Where do you go to reconnect with the beauty of simply being? 🩵

Once upon a time I was reminded of the transformative power of storytelling and its ability to inspire wonder and hope. Of course, the most profound narrative we can explore is the one we tell ourselves about our own lives.

In my practice, I help clients re-examine their personal stories, guiding them to reinterpret experiences, challenge limiting beliefs, and craft empowering new narratives. By reframing our stories, we unlock our strengths, align with our core values, and take charge of our unique journeys.

Remember, our stories shape our reality. They define us, giving meaning to our past, guiding our present choices, and shaping future possibilities.

Is the narrative you have of your life cohesive and empowering? Does it allow you to step into the best version of yourself? 💫

My boys and I so enjoyed this year's degree show, which felt more optimistic than recent years.

I was particularly moved by the exquisite, pigment-saturated Jesmonite pieces by which manage to convey a strength that can only come from vulnerability.

Although I attended Duncan of Jordanstone many moons ago, the corridors still have the same familiar scent of paint, dust and endless possibilities.

Nature + Companionship + Challenge = Joy

While visiting my father over Easter, we climbed Table Mountain. Sharing such a magnificent place with my children was something I truly cherished. Despite occasional grumbling from my six year old, there was more than enough along the way to capture his curiosity.

We made our way up Skeleton Gorge, paused for a picnic at Maclear’s Beacon, the highest point, and then chased the sun across the plateau to catch the cable car down.

Easy pleasures may bring fleeting happiness, but the joy that comes from doing something challenging, especially outside and alongside people you love, runs deeper and endures.
