Behind every surgery is a person with a story. A child able to run and play. A parent returning to work. Someone seeing clearly again. Someone smiling with confidence for the first time in years.

Thank you for making these transformations possible.

After returning home, Amara welcomed the Mercy Ships team to his village, where they saw firsthand how much his life had changed.

For his mother, Betty, who once watched her son endure bullying and isolation, the visit was a chance to celebrate the confident young boy he was becoming and thank everyone who helped make his surgery possible.

You can help make more stories like Amara's possible. Whether by volunteering, donating, or sharing our mission, you can be part of bringing hope and healing to people who need it most. Learn more at Home - Mercy Ships .

Amara's story is a reminder that no one changes a life alone.

Before his orthopedic surgery aboard the , routine blood screening revealed that Amara is a sickle cell carrier. The discovery meant his operation required additional planning to ensure it could be carried out safely.

Every step of his healing has depended on people contributing their expertise, generosity, and care to help him take his own steps again. Hope is built through many hands, each playing a part in someone's transformation.

For years, his children Arla and Elidiot lived with bowed legs that caused pain, made them late for school, and left them vulnerable to teasing.

Before surgery, their father, Christophe, had one simple request: photograph his children holding hands before and after their operations.

Now, the photos tell a different story, one of healing and new possibilities.

Read their story on our blog.
