PATA is a Cape Town-based non-profit organisation (NPO) that provides crucial support, education, training and resources to 310 paediatric HIV clinics across 24 sub-Saharan African countries. The fundamental purpose of PATA is to assist these clinics to improve the quality of healthcare they are able to provide to HIV-infected children and their families. PATA’s core activities include holding an

annual participatory, action-oriented training forum for 80-160 frontline healthcare workers to share best practices and operational strategies, conducting quality improvement training at district level, and running a task-shifting programme in 49 clinics across 15 countries. PATA also mentors and up-skills clinics throughout the year to manage self-initiated quality improvement projects. PATA maintains contact with clinic teams throughout the year through our newsletter and website www.teampata.org (a platform for sharing electronic resources such as the PATA proceedings, the written output of the annual forum). The PATA network promotes team exchanges, resource sharing, task-shifting and the involvement of people living with HIV/AIDS in the clinic. The PATA office is advised by a 13-member Steering Committee of leading practitioners who meet bimonthly to direct PATA's strategy, programmes and operations.

The Gauteng Department of Health is hosting the 13th Midwifery, Obstetric, Neonatal and Child ( ) Conference, recognising the exceptional healthcare providers who are at the heart of maternal and child healthcare.

Nigeria is proud to participate in the country's main event and the official launch of Nigeria’s of Life Campaign!

Today's discussions highlighted the need to address the behavioural, cultural, and health system barriers that impact mothers and babies. For the project, breastfeeding is a vital component of maternal and child health — and a cornerstone of preventing HIV transmission from mother to baby.

Healthcare workers remain at the centre of this mission:

🔹 Managing viral load testing & Early Infant Diagnosis (EID)

Celebrate World Breastfeeding Week with us!

Today, Zwelakhe Dalisile Clinic — a -supported facility — is proud to host South Africa’s main event!

Over 200 pregnant and breastfeeding mothers have joined the celebration, filled with music, traditional dance, and community joy. Our implementing partners are on-site providing essential health services and sharing important care information.

We applaud the dedicated team at Zwelakhe Dalisile Clinic for putting mothers and babies at the heart of everything they do. Through the project, PATA remains committed to supporting healthcare workers and strengthening vertical transmission prevention services across the Chris Hani District.

Happy Day 1 of !

The team at Zwelakhe Dalasile CHC in Ngcobo, Eastern Cape, South Africa is officially ready!

As proud hosts of this year’s South Africa National Breastfeeding Week event, our staff brought incredible energy and song to the recent build-up activities held across 10 supported facilities in the Chris Hani District from 14–24 July.

Their enthusiasm says it all: Every mother can breastfeed.

Whether living with HIV or not, mothers can breastfeed safely when equipped with the right support, care, and guidance from healthcare providers.

We can’t wait to celebrate this important week together as we continue to protect, promote, and support breastfeeding across our communities!

Communities cannot be an afterthought.

During the session Adapting AHD for Routine Care and Outbreak Response, one message stood out: communities must be involved from the very beginning of programmes, not invited in after key decisions have already been made. Better AHD services begin with communities at the table.

At today’s symposium, From Research to Real Life: Translating Evidence into Pregnancy, Breastfeeding and Paediatric Care, Luann Hatane, PATA Executive Director and co-lead of the Coalition for Children Affected by AIDS (CCABA), had the honour of presenting the Prize for Excellence in HIV Research Related to Children and Adolescents alongside Professor Lorraine Sherr.

CCABA co-sponsors the prize with the IAS to reinforce a clear message: children, adolescents and caregivers matter, and research must help us understand their needs, realise their potential and put them first in the HIV response.

The prize recognised two research teams advancing evidence on treatment interruption and return to care among children and adolescents, and malnutrition among young children living with HIV beginning treatment in Mozambique.

Congratulations to both winning research teams!

Dr Vanessa Fozao from is speaking at Where Stigma Ends, Care Begins, sharing how PATA works with frontline healthcare providers and communities to challenge stigma and strengthen trust in HIV services. She highlighted the importance of meeting healthcare providers where they are, helping them recognise how stigma affects access to care, while also understanding the pressures they face and equipping them to deliver respectful, inclusive and rights-based services.
