At GEMS, we understand that starting an exercise routine can be challenging.

Here are a few tips to help you stay motivated:

1. Write up a list of why you want to start moving your body - keep it nearby to keep yourself accountable.
2. Make a list of all possible barriers to achieving your goals, and for each point, prepare a list of solutions.
3. Prioritise exercise and choose something you enjoy doing - you're more likely to stick to it.
4. Set small, achievable goals and be both disciplined and patient with yourself.
5. Remember to have fun and remember that any exercise is better than no exercise.

Congratulations to George Kusche and Gerda Steyn on their incredible victories at the 2026 Comrades Marathon!

George Kusche delivered a phenomenal performance to claim the men’s title and set a new Up Run record, while Gerda Steyn secured her historic fifth Comrades Marathon victory, further cementing her place among the legends of the Ultimate Human Race.

From all of us at GEMS, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to these outstanding champions on their remarkable achievements.

The road to Comrades Marathon is about more than just race day, it is about commitment, discipline, and making healthy lifestyle choices every day.

To encourage and inspire our GEMS employees who will be taking part in the 2026 Comrades Marathon, members of the GEMS EXCO, including the COO, CFO, CSO, CMO, CRO and CHO, hosted a special motivational session ahead of the race.

The session served as a reminder that wellness is at the heart of who we are as a Scheme, and that every runner has the full support of GEMS behind them as they prepare to take on this incredible challenge.
