Our Co-Director and Speech-Language Therapist (Liné Kruger) recently had the opportunity to attend this thought-provoking colloquium, which brought together researchers, practitioners, and advocates from across disciplines to critically reflect on how early childhood development is understood, measured, and supported in our contexts.

The two days sparked rich conversations, challenged assumptions, and offered new perspectives on the importance of contextually grounded, culturally responsive, and locally informed approaches to early childhood development.

Today, the Cape Town Therapy Hub celebrates 9 years! 🎉

For the past nine years, we've had the privilege of providing collaborative, multidisciplinary care to individuals and families across Cape Town. From children's development to adult wellbeing, we've been honoured to walk alongside our clients, offering compassionate, evidence-based support tailored to their unique needs.

This milestone is only possible because of the incredible people who have been part of our journey... our clients, their families, our dedicated team, referring professionals and our wider community. Thank you for your trust, your support, and for allowing us to do what we love every day!

As we celebrate this special birthday, we look forward to continuing to provide collaborative, client-centred care for many years to come.

Here's to 9 years of making a difference, together 💙

We are excited to share that Liné Kruger (Speech Therapist and Co-Director of the Cape Town Therapy Hub) published her first peer-reviewed article in the International Journal of Speech-Language Pathology. This publication forms part of her ongoing PhD research focusing on promoting communication access in South Africa.

The study explored communication access during face-to-face service encounters in the service sector for people who have communication support needs in low-and middle-income countries.

📌 The article is available as Open Access and can be viewed here:

Kruger, L., Tönsing, K., & Dada, S. (2026). Communication access in low-and middle-income countries: A scoping review. International Journal of Speech-Language Pathology, 1–16. https://doi.org/10.1080/17549507.2026.2685110

This work contributes to the broader evidence base in speech-language pathology and ongoing efforts to improve communication access and support for people who have communication support needs within the service sector in South Africa.

Recently had the privilege of providing staff training at Cape Town Montessori School on speech and language milestones, as well as areas to look out for in the classroom.

The training was presented by Liné Kruger, a Speech-Language and Hearing Therapist from the Cape Town Therapy Hub, who also provides speech therapy sessions at the school.

What truly stood out was the incredible CTMS staff team. Their enthusiasm, warmth, and genuine commitment to their learners made the session highly engaging and very meaningful. They contributed thoughtful questions, shared valuable classroom insights, and demonstrated a strong desire to better understand how communication development impacts learning, behaviour, and classroom participation.

We explored typical speech and language milestones and discussed areas to look out for that may indicate when a learner could benefit from further assessment or support. It was inspiring to see how readily the team connected the content to real classroom situations and how invested they are in early identification and meaningful support for their learners.

CTMS is clearly home to a dedicated, reflective, and proactive group of educators. Thank you for the warm welcome and for the important work you do every day 🌿
