Dyslexia looks different for everyone, but early identification can make a world of difference for a child's confidence and classroom experience. So, what should parents and educators look out for?

Common early signs can include:
🔸 Delayed speech development or difficulty learning new words
🔸 Trouble with rhyming words
🔸 Confusing letters for one another or confusing left and right
🔸 Reading below the expected level for their age
🔸 Avoidance of reading aloud or struggling with spelling

Recognizing these symptoms early on allows us to create effective intervention strategies. If you’ve noticed these signs in your child’s classroom behaviour or homework routine, a professional examination is a great next step.

Did you know that an estimated 1 in 5 people worldwide are affected by dyslexia? But what exactly is it?

Dyslexia is a learning difference that affects how the brain processes language. It primarily impacts reading, spelling, and the ability to sound out words. But the dyslexic mind is far from disadvantaged, it is built for incredible big-picture thinking and unparalleled creativity.

While reading traditional text might take a bit more energy, individuals with dyslexia often excel at connecting complex ideas and seeing systems holistically. To help children and adults unlock their full potential, accurate identification is the first step. Elizma provides comprehensive dyslexia testing and neuro-visual evaluations across our Kenridge branch to ensure every patient gets the targeted support they need to thrive.

Stay tuned this Dyslexia Awareness month as we break down symptoms, types, and the hidden strengths of the dyslexic mind!
