Sometimes healing requires distance.

Being thousands of miles away from everyday stress, familiar triggers and unhealthy routines can make it easier to focus completely on recovery.

Cape Town offers something unique:

✓ Peaceful surroundings
✓ World-class clinical care
✓ Smaller client numbers
✓ Beautiful natural environment
✓ A chance to reset without daily distractions

Recovery isn't a holiday.

It's hard work.

But where you do that work matters.

For many of our International clients, South Africa provides the space they needed to finally focus on themselves.

When we only focus on difficulties, we miss the extraordinary strengths that often come with neurodiversity.

Many neurodivergent individuals are:

✨ Highly creative
✨ Innovative thinkers
✨ Passionate learners
✨ Honest communicators
✨ Exceptional problem-solvers
✨ Deeply empathetic
✨ Able to think outside the box

Support should nurture strengths while helping overcome challenges.

Every individual has something valuable to offer.

Recovery isn't dramatic.

It's often very ordinary.

☀️ Waking up with a clear mind.

☕ Enjoying your morning coffee.

🚶 Going for a walk.

📞 Calling your family.

😂 Laughing again.

💙 Sleeping peacefully.

Sometimes the biggest victories are the smallest moments.

Keep going.

They add up.

Recovery isn't about creating a life where nothing ever goes wrong.

It's about creating a life where you no longer need alcohol or drugs to cope when things do.

Stress still happens.
Relationships still need work.
Life still has difficult days.

The difference is that recovery gives you healthier ways to respond.

Every difficult day you get through sober is proof that you are becoming stronger than your addiction.

If today feels hard, remember:
You don't have to be perfect.
You only have to stay sober today.

📍The Grange Treatment Centre welcomes clients from South Africa, the UK and around the world to begin their recovery journey in a safe, structured environment.

Supporting a loved one in recovery can feel overwhelming, but small actions make a big difference.

• Listen without judgement
• Be patient with the process
• Encourage professional support
• Set healthy boundaries
• Celebrate progress, not perfection
• Remember to take care of yourself too

Recovery is a journey best travelled with support, understanding, and hope.

What Alcohol Does to Your Body and Mind

Alcohol is a depressant that affects the brain and nervous system.

Short term:
Relaxation
Lowered inhibitions
Impaired judgment

After the effects wear off:
Anxiety
Low mood
Irritability
Poor sleep

With regular use, it can lead to:
Liver damage
Increased blood pressure
Hormonal imbalance
Weakened immune system
Dependence

What feels like stress relief is often temporary.
The long-term impact is real.

Awareness is the first step toward change

As a Neurodiversity Specialist Marelene Zwiegers tells us, one of the most important things we want people to understand is that neurodiverse individuals are not trying to be difficult, oppositional, lazy, or disconnected.

Many are working twice as hard as everyone around them just to navigate a world that wasn't designed for the way their brains process information.

Behind the overwhelm, sensory sensitivities, social challenges, or difficulties with focus is often a person trying their very best to belong.

The goal is not to make neurodiverse people fit into the world.

The goal is to create a world where they feel understood, valued, and accepted for exactly who they are.

That is where growth begins

Loving Someone Who Uses W**d Heavily

It’s confusing.

Because it doesn’t always look like a problem.
They’re still functioning.
Still showing up… mostly.

But you see the changes.

The lack of motivation.
The withdrawal.
The distance.

You’re not imagining it.

Even something seen as “harmless”
can quietly affect someone’s mental health and daily life.

It’s okay to feel concerned.
It’s okay to not know how to help.

Support matters — for you too

At The Grange, we believe in understanding the person behind the struggle, creating a safe space where healing, growth, and support come first.

The Co***ne Cycle

It starts as a boost.
Confidence. Energy. Control.

But slowly… it changes.

The highs get shorter.
The crashes get heavier.
The anxiety gets louder.

You tell yourself it’s still under control.
That you can stop anytime.

But if you’re honest
it’s not giving you what it used to.

You’re not weak.
You’re caught in a cycle that’s hard to break alone.

There is a way out of it
