A LITTLE TEMPTATION IS STILL TEMPTATION
Rina, a Weight-Loss Client, once said to me, “But Joyce, surely I’m allowed a little chocolate, a little w**e, a little indulgence?”
And I said, “Sometimes the answer isn’t learning how to have a little. It’s learning to walk away.”
God does not ask us to become comfortable around what repeatedly pulls us back into bo***ge. God does not tell us to flirt with tempation and try harder to avoid falling. He says to escape it. Sometimes freedom means removing yourself from the temptation completely.
Leave the chocolate. Walk out of the kitchen. Change the environment. Find different friends. Create a new way of celebrating, relaxing or having fun.
Stop asking, “How close can I get without falling?” Start asking, “What do I need to leave behind to remain free?”
“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful… when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”
1 Corinthians 10:13
Declare this Scripture when temptation comes. Get your spirit behind your decision. When your spirit becomes stronger than the desire, your actions begin to follow.
Sometimes God’s “way out” is exactly that:
Walk away.
