If you spend a lot of time commuting, working at a computer, or sitting in a forward-folded position, there is a good chance your deep hips are carrying more tension than you realise.

One of the main areas involved is the psoas — a deep muscle that helps connect the spine, pelvis, and legs. When it becomes shortened or over tight, people often notice:
* tight hips
* a heavy lower back
* stiffness when standing up
* the feeling that the body never fully opens

A simple office tip:

When you stand up from your chair, do not rush straight into walking.

Instead, stand tall, place one foot slightly behind you, gently bend the front knee, and let the back hip soften open for 2 to 3 slow breaths. Then change sides.

It is not a big stretch.
It is simply a way to remind the front of the hip to open again after too much sitting.

Small moments like this can help restore awareness and improve mobility through the deep hip over the course of the day.

If your hips still feel tight or heavy despite trying to move more, that is often a sign the body needs more focused help.

A simple hip mobility observation:

Try to squat down and notice what happens.

If you feel tightness, restriction, or one side behaving differently from the other, your hips may be asking for more attention than they have been getting.

That tightness can show up as:
* a blocked feeling in the hips
* pulling through the lower back
* stiffness in the groin or outer hip
* difficulty getting comfortably into the squat

Why does this matter?

Because the squat is one of the body’s basic movement patterns. It affects how well you sit down and stand up, get up from lower positions, bend to pick things up, absorb load through the hips and legs, and move with strength and control through daily life.

A comfortable squat also usually reflects something important:
that the hips, knees, ankles, pelvis, and lower back are working together well, which is key to your ability to move.

When the squat becomes tight, restricted, or awkward, it is often a sign that the body needs better mobility, better movement options, and a more consistent way to restore ease of movement.
