Su***de is not caused by one thing, and it cannot be reduced to a single diagnosis or life event.

As psychiatrists, we look at the broader clinical picture; mood, psychiatric illness, trauma, substance use, psychosocial stressors, previous suicidal behaviour, and changes in functioning, among other factors.

Prevention requires recognising risk early, taking suicidal thoughts seriously, and connecting people to appropriate care before a crisis escalates.

This World Su***de Prevention Day, let’s move beyond awareness. Let’s understand the risk, recognise the signs, and intervene earlier.

Taking care of your mind is always in style🧠✨…

Therapy.
Self-awareness.
Boundaries.
Asking for help.
Unlearning.
Growing.

Mental health isn’t something to think about only when things fall apart.

It’s kinda chic to do the inner work.

Coercive control doesn’t always look like abuse. Sometimes, it looks like “love” with conditions.

It can look like knowing you’re being watched.
Like explaining where you’ve been.
Like choosing your words carefully to avoid a reaction.
Like slowly losing friends, boundaries, confidence and eventually… yourself.

The most dangerous part? You may not even realise how much freedom you’ve surrendered until you try to take it back.

Control is not care.
Jealousy is not love.
Fear is not intimacy.

If you constantly have to make yourself smaller to keep someone else comfortable, it may be time to ask yourself: “Am I in a relationship… or am I being controlled?”

Your autonomy matters. Your boundaries matter. And you deserve relationships where you can still be fully yourself.

“You’re fine.”
For someone living with Illness Anxiety Disorder, those words rarely bring lasting relief.

Their fear isn’t fake.
Their symptoms feel real.
Their anxiety is genuine.
Living in constant fear that every ache, pain or unusual sensation signals a serious illness can be emotionally exhausting and isolating. Many people spend months, or even years; searching for reassurance, only to find themselves trapped in the same cycle of fear.

Mental health conditions don’t always look like panic attacks or sadness. Sometimes they look like endless medical appointments, late-night symptom searches, and living with the belief that something terrible is about to happen. With the right support and treatment, it is possible to break this cycle and regain peace of mind.

Not every symptom is a sign of serious illness. Sometimes, it’s anxiety convincing you that the worst is about to happen.

Being labelled a “hypochondriac” can be isolating, but Illness Anxiety Disorder is a real and treatable mental health condition.

Your mental health shapes how you experience your physical health. Understanding the connection between the mind and the body is the first step toward healing.

Some conversations are loud. Others are painfully quiet.

The silent treatment isn’t simply “needing space.” When silence is used to punish, manipulate, or gain control, it can have lasting psychological effects on the person experiencing it.

Healthy communication allows room for pauses but it also makes room for repair.

Question: Have you ever experienced the difference between someone taking healthy space and someone giving you the silent treatment?

Half the year is behind you but the story isn’t over.

A mid-year reset isn’t about becoming a completely different person. It’s about checking in with yourself, releasing what no longer serves you, and moving forward with greater intention and self-compassion.

Take a deep breath. Reflect. Realign. Begin again.

What’s one intention you’re carrying into the rest of this year?
