World Hemophilia Day is observed annually on April 17 to raise global awareness for hemophilia and other inherited bleeding disorders. Started in 1989 by the World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH) to honor founder Frank Schnabel’s birthday, the day advocates for improved diagnosis and access to care.

What is Hemophilia?
Types: Hemophilia A (factor VIII deficiency) and B (factor IX deficiency) are the most common, primarily affecting males, while females can be carriers.

Symptoms: Frequent, large bruises; nosebleeds; and spontaneous bleeding in joints and muscles.

Management: Treatment involves replacing the missing clotting factor via injections.
