To all my lovely patients,

I hope you have all stayed safe during this dark and scary time in our beautiful city. The communities have been amazing, getting together all hours of the day to protect us in the midst of the chaos.

We applaud the Muslim community who have rallied together and provided our community with bread and milk at the local Mosques - we are grateful and may you all be forever blessed.

We will be opening again on Monday the 19th of July 2021. Please call Shaks on 031 201 1442 to make an appointment.

Your safety is our utmost priority.

Kind Regards,
Dr Brittany Van Wyk

Hold on and stay safe🙏

We cannot thank the local communities enough for protecting our cities, towns, businesses, our family and friends and putting everything on the line for each other.

Please stay safe everybody this evening and stay connected.

The unity is incredible and this will help us get through this storm.

The 16th of June commemorates Youth Day in South Africa.

This day represents power and unity, and is a reminder of how far we have come in this democratic country.

We pay homage to those who lost their lives in the protests that took place in 1976 and the role they played in moving us forward as a nation.

A common cause for back injuries is poor lifting techniques in the workplace and home.

Sometimes lifting your child into your arms or moving a small box can send you into a frenzy of pain and discomfort for days after.

Here are some great tips to consider when you are lifting objects:

• Think about the lift before you do it. If you know the parcel is too heavy for one person, ask for help.
• Don’t bend at your back when lifting. Rather use your legs by fully flexing your knees and hips to assume your lifting position.
• Do not twist your body while lifting objects. Keep your body straight and use your feet to turn around if you need to change direction instead of twisting from your waist.

Speak to your CASA-registered chiropractor today about other great lifting techniques.

Do you remember your mother or teacher shouting the words “don’t slouch” or “sit up straight”? Short of putting a broomstick in your shirt, there are many ways of ensuring you maintain a proper posture!

Ensuring your posture is correct is a sure-fire way of minimizing your risk of sustaining back and neck injuries. This includes keeping good posture habits at gym, home and the workplace.

The 27th of April commemorates the first democratic elections held in South Africa.

Let us celebrate this Freedom Day as one nation.

Today, more than ever, we find ourselves slumped behind electronic devices most of the time. If it’s not the office computer then it is our cellphones glued to our hand. These items have become a necessity but overuse may cause neck and back pain, which can be avoided with some simple posture changes.

POSTURE TIP OF THE MONTH:
Invest in a good quality supportive chair. One that has a back rest that supports your entire spine, has comfortable cushioning in the seat and back rest and has the ability to adjust the armrests and height of the chair for best posture positioning.
