You can change your narrative! In addiction, we give away our freedom of choice in exchange for our drug or behaviour of choice. In recovery, we can reverse this transaction and regain our ability to choose well.

Sometimes, “I deserve a break” is exactly what you need to hear. Other times, it’s how you justify stepping away from the things that keep you well.

Rest is necessary. Disengaging from your recovery is different.

Be honest with yourself: are you taking a healthy break, or are you slowly slipping back into old patterns?

Sometimes, we step in to help, take on responsibilities that aren’t ours, and later feel drained or even resentful. It’s a cycle many of us fall into without even realising it. Melody Beattie’s insight reminds us how easy it is to fall into this pattern—but also that we can step out of it.

💬 Have you noticed this pattern in your own life? What helps you set healthy boundaries? Let’s share and learn from each other in the comments. ⬇️

Sometimes, we keep repeating the same patterns simply because they’re familiar. But familiar doesn’t always mean healthy.

Proverbs 4:26 reminds us to be intentional about the paths we take. Growth begins when we pause, reflect, and choose differently. 🤍

Ask yourself: Is the way I’m living taking me where I truly want to go?

If you need help overcoming addictive behaviours, or dealing with the addiction of a loved one, joining a recovery group is one of the best things you can do for yourself.

The group locator tool on our website allows you to find the nearest recovery groups to you.

Romans 12:2 reminds us of the transformative power of renewing our minds. In addiction recovery, this verse takes on a profound significance. It encourages us to work on our thinking patterns and to allow God to change our perspectives. There is freedom in shifting our paradigms!
