As a GP I am privileged to walk alongside my patients and their families through some of life’s most challenging and meaningful moments. I was deeply touched to receive this beautiful painting and heartfelt note from the family of a patient I had the honour of caring for. Their words of gratitude were incredibly moving, but what resonated most was the reminder that medicine is about so much more than diagnoses and treatments - it’s about compassion and connection. It serves as a daily reminder of the trust patients place in me and the privilege of caring for individuals and families across generations.

Thank you to the 1860 Heritage Centre for asking me to be on standby to provide medical assistance this morning at their event to commemorate the arrival of Indian indentured workers to South Africa 165 years ago today.

The event was concluded by offering marigold flowers into the Indian Ocean.

Thank you GVK - Siya Zama Construction for inviting me this morning to discuss breast cancer at your offices, with October being breast cancer awareness month.

A few reminders regarding breast cancer:
Please be aware of your risk factors which include:

- family history of breast cancer
- personal history of breast cancer
- age of menarche
- age of menopause
- being female
- dense breast tissue
- alcohol
- cigarette smoking / va**ng

Regular self breast examinations are a must and mammograms over the age of 40 for those with no family history of breast cancer.

Please be aware of your body and in tune with any changes thst your body may exhibit.
