Mobilisation is an essential part of hospital care, and physiotherapists play a vital role in helping patients regain function, maintain independence and prevent the effects of prolonged bed rest.

🎗️In oncology, mobilisation remains just as important. In fact, getting patients moving is often one of our primary goals.
🎗️The difference is that cancer patients may have additional factors that need careful consideration before deciding what is safe and appropriate on a particular day.
🎗️Low haemoglobin levels, low platelet counts, infection risk, bone metastases, treatment-related side effects and reduced cardiovascular reserve can all influence how a patient responds to activity. Our role is not simply to ask, "Can this patient walk?" but rather, "Will this patient benefit from walking today, and how can we do it safely?"
🎗️Cancer recovery is not always linear. There are days when patients progress, and there are days when treatment, complications or symptoms require us to adapt our approach. Safe and effective rehabilitation means meeting patients where they are and adjusting the plan accordingly.

The goal is always movement. The question is how to achieve it safely, effectively and at the right time.

Mobilisation is not simply a task, it's a clinical decision.

🎗️In oncology rehab, what we assess influences every step they take.

🎗️Treatment effects, fatigue, blood counts, neuropathy, cardiovascular responses, and symptom burden all influence how and when rehabilitation should occur.

The LP Physio team extends our gratitude to for inviting us to present in-service training to the SCP porters. We thoroughly enjoyed sharing kinetic handling techniques aimed at keeping both patients and staff safe. Our session covered various patient transfer methods, with a special focus on conditions like spinal injuries and hip or orthopedic surgeries. We hope the workshop has equipped attendees with the confidence to handle patients safely, while also prioritising their own well-being.
