Tip Tuesday

💛 Tip Tuesday | Small Strategies. Big Difference.

Living with ADHD doesn't mean you need a perfect system.

It means finding the strategies that work for you.

Sometimes the smallest changes can have the biggest impact:
✔️ Write things down.
✔️ Create simple routines.
✔️ Use timers to stay on track.
✔️ Schedule time to recharge.
✔️ Give yourself permission to say "no."
✔️ Prioritise your sleep, movement, and wellbeing.

Progress isn't about doing everything perfectly; it's about making today a little easier than yesterday.

And while practical tips matter, something even more powerful is knowing you're not facing ADHD alone.

That's what the Sea of Yellow is all about.

Imagine being a child with ADHD and seeing your school, your community, your workplace, and thousands of people across South Africa wearing yellow to say:

💛 We see you.
💛 We understand you.
💛 We're standing with you.

This National ADHD Awareness Day, let's create a wave of understanding that reaches every child who has ever felt different.

👕 Wear yellow on 11 September.
💛 Donate R10 to help create access to ADHD support. ( https://payf.st/e0dy6 or link in bio)
📸 Share your photo and inspire others to join the movement.

Because awareness doesn't just change minds...
It changes lives.

💛 TIP TUESDAY 💛

When it comes to supporting a child with ADHD, there is no "magic fix."
But there are small, everyday habits that can make a meaningful difference.

A predictable routine.
Nutritious meals.
Quality sleep.
Time outdoors.
Regular movement.
Balanced screen time.

These may seem like simple things, but together they help create an environment where children can regulate their emotions, focus more effectively, and feel their best.

It's important to remember that lifestyle changes don't replace professional assessment, treatment or support, but they can be powerful tools alongside them.

The goal isn't perfection.
The goal is progress.

Try introducing one small change at a time, celebrate the wins, and remember that every child is different. What works well for one child may need to be adapted for another.

Supporting a child with ADHD isn't about changing who they are.

It's about creating an environment where they can thrive.

💛 Healthy habits build strong foundations.
💛 Small changes can make a big difference.
💛 Every child deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential.

What healthy habit has made the biggest difference for your child or learners? We'd love to hear your experiences in the comments. 👇

💛 MANDELA DAY | IT'S IN OUR HANDS 💛

"It is in your hands to create a better world for all who live in it." - Nelson Mandela

At Goldilocks and The Bear Foundation, we see every day how a small act of kindness, understanding or support can change the course of a child's life.

A hearing test can identify a challenge that has gone unnoticed for years.
A vision screening can help a child see the board for the first time.
A conversation can help a family find answers.
A referral can open the door to life-changing support.

These may seem like small things, but for a child who has been struggling silently, they can mean everything.

This Mandela Day, we are reminded that creating a better future doesn't always require grand gestures. Sometimes it starts with simply seeing a child, listening to their story, and helping them access the support they deserve.

Every child deserves:
💛 To be seen
💛 To be heard
💛 To be understood
💛 To have access to support
💛 To be given the opportunity to thrive

As we celebrate Mandela Day, let's commit to building a world where every child feels valued, included and supported.

Because when we invest in children, we invest in the future.

💛 67 minutes can change a day.
💛 Understanding can change a life.

💛 WHY AWARENESS MATTERS 💛

Awareness is more than knowing a fact. It's seeing a child differently.

Every day, children are labelled as:
• Lazy
• Naughty
• Difficult
• Unmotivated
• Attention-seeking

Yet behind those labels may be ADHD, anxiety, learning difficulties, sensory challenges, depression, trauma, or simply a child who is struggling and doesn't know how to ask for help.

Awareness helps us look beyond the behaviour and see the child.

It helps teachers recognise when a learner may need support rather than punishment.
It helps parents understand that challenges are not always a reflection of effort.
It helps communities replace judgement with compassion.

Most importantly, awareness opens the door to early identification and intervention.

When we know what to look for, children get the support they need sooner.
And when children receive the right support, everything can change.

A child who is understood becomes more confident.
A child who is supported becomes more capable.
A child who is included becomes more hopeful.

Because awareness is often where a better story begins. 💛

💛 TIP TUESDAY 💛

What if behaviour isn't the problem?
What if it's the message?

As adults, it's easy to focus on what a child is doing:
• The tantrum
• The defiance
• The withdrawal
• The inability to sit still
• The emotional outburst

But behaviour is often communication before it is a choice.

A child who is acting out may be overwhelmed.
A child who won't listen may not feel heard.
A child who can't sit still may be struggling to regulate their body.
A child who shuts down may be carrying emotions they don't yet have the words to express.

The words we use matter too.

When we say:
❌ "You're lazy."
❌ "You're being difficult."
❌ "Why can't you just listen?"

Children often hear:
💔 "Something is wrong with me."

Instead, try:
✅ "How can I help?"
✅ "Tell me what's making this hard."
✅ "Let's figure this out together."

When we shift from judgement to curiosity, we create space for understanding, connection and growth.

Because behind every behaviour is a child trying their best with the skills, support and resources they have right now.

💛 Connection before correction.
💛 Understanding before assumptions.
💛 Curiosity before judgement.

Is your child starting school soon or already there and struggling to keep up?

There's so much more to school readiness than knowing the alphabet. It's about how your child listens, communicates, processes language, and builds the foundations for reading and writing.

💡 Why Neurotype Matters

Have you ever wondered why two children can sit in the same classroom, complete the same activity, and have completely different experiences?

That's because every brain processes the world differently. 🧠✨

For some children, the challenge is staying organised and getting started. For others, it's managing sensory input, unexpected changes, or social demands. And for many, these experiences overlap.

The important thing to remember? ❤️

Different does not mean less capable.

When we understand that different neurotypes carry different "processing costs," we can create environments that help children thrive instead of simply survive.

🌟 For Parents:
• Focus on effort, not just outcomes.
• Celebrate progress, even when it seems small.
• Remember that what looks easy for one child may require tremendous effort from another.

🍎 For Teachers:
• Offer clear routines and expectations.
• Break tasks into manageable steps.
• Recognise effort and persistence alongside achievement.

Burnout isn't always a sign that a child isn't trying.
Sometimes it's a sign that their bandwidth has been stretched beyond capacity.

Different architecture.
Different costs.
Same need for understanding. 💛
