๐ NOT SURE ABOUT VACCINATING YOUR CHILD? LETโS TALK. โค๏ธ
If youโre a parent who has been wondering:
โ โAre vaccines really necessary?โ
โ โWhat if Iโm worried about side effects?โ
โ โMy child looks healthy โ why do they need vaccines?โ
โ โIโve heard so many different thingsโฆ who should I believe?โ
๐ You are not a bad parent for having questions.
Itโs completely understandable to want to know exactly what you are giving your child.
But hereโs the important part: vaccines are designed to protect children BEFORE they are exposed to serious diseases.
And right now, this matters more than ever.
๐ฟ๐ฆ South Africa is seeing an increase in measles and other vaccine-preventable diseases, while many children are missing routine vaccinations.
๐ถ Babies and young children are particularly vulnerable to serious infections.
๐ Vaccination isnโt about being โforโ or โagainstโ something. Itโs about making an informed decision based on good medical evidence, your childโs age, their health and the vaccines recommended for them.
โค๏ธ If youโre unsure, please donโt simply skip the vaccine. Ask questions first.
Speak to your doctor, nurse, pharmacist or clinic nurse about:
โ๏ธ What vaccine your child is due for
โ๏ธ What the vaccine protects against
โ๏ธ Common side effects
โ๏ธ What is normal after vaccination
โ๏ธ What to do if your child has missed doses
โ๏ธ Whether your child has any reason to delay or avoid a particular vaccine
๐ Take your childโs Road-to-Health Book with you and have their immunisations checked.
You donโt have to make decisions based on fear, social media or pressure from either side.
Ask questions. Get the facts. Then make an informed decision for your child. โค๏ธ
๐ข With measles cases currently increasing in South Africa, now is a good time to check whether your childโs vaccinations are up to date.
