As such, Lymphoedema is one of the most commonly misdiagnosed and under-treated co-morbidities associated with cardiac, orthopaedic, vascular as well as cancer treatment and survivorship. Lymphoedema and other oedema pathologies that involve uncontrolled swelling can and should be safely treated following an accurate diagnosis utilizing the specialized therapeutic techniques learned in the certification course. The technique of therapy that creates the core of this regimen is based on the International Standards of practice for Complete Decongestive Therapy and Wound Care Management. Suzi Davey is present for and instructs portions of every training course. She remains committed to the delivery of an unaltered, uniform educational system regardless of location, class size, or participant background. Additionally, as part of the school’s enduring commitment to its alumni, our instructors are available to consult with practicing Lymphoedema therapists on challenging patient cases, reimbursement issues, and successful business practices.

What an incredible 2-Day experience at SASS 2026 South African Society for Stomates National Conference in Cape Town.
Thank you to the SASS organising committee Janse van Noordwyk Dr Faizel Jacobs and all others involved in the planning!

So grateful to share my passion and clinical experience with Lymph Medical Academy and shared information about Lymphoedema Association of South Africa

Met so many international professionals from several countries- Iceland, Finland, Switzerland, Slovakia, Romania, USA, Zambia, Togo and of course all parts of South Africa coming together to share knowledge, experience and different perspectives in Stoma Therapy 🌍

And all my co-exhibitors great to see you all again and so many new connections made these past 2-days discussions about the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration and continued education in healthcare!

Okay, I edited this myself because it needed to exist 😅

But real talk‼️ Most doctors (or medical practitioners) get maybe an hour on the lymphatic system in their entire training. ONE HOUR. For a system that runs through your entire body and affects swelling, immunity, healing, chronic pain…the list goes on.

I was trained at the Foeldi School in Germany, the European Center for Lymphology, and even there, you barely scratch the surface at the start.
It’s a deep, complex system.

So if your doctor brushed off your swelling as “just water weight” or told you nothing’s wrong when your body clearly feels different, it might not be that nothing’s wrong.
It might be that they were never taught to look.

Oedema management is about more than just temporarily reducing swelling. If we only focus on short-term relief without addressing the underlying cause, the swelling often returns — and over time, the tissue can become more damaged and fibrotic.

Effective oedema care should focus on long-term management, lymphatic support, skin health, movement, compression, and patient education to improve quality of life and outcomes. 💙
