The language surrounding menopause hormone treatment has evolved over time, which for some patients can be confusing to navigate. Let’s break it down for clarity 👇🏾
🌸 MHT (Menopausal Hormone Therapy). This is the preferred medical term for hormone treatment during menopause.
🌸 HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy). This is an older term that many women still recognise. It refers to the same treatment as MHT.
🌸 ET (Estrogen Therapy). This is one treatment option within MHT. Women with a uterus are prescribed oestrogen alongside progesterone to protect the uterine lining, while those who have undergone a hysterectomy generally do not require progesterone for this purpose. Progesterone may also support sleep in women experiencing menopause-related sleep disturbances 🌙
