Cataracts develop when the clear lens inside the eye gradually becomes cloudy. This can affect reading, driving, and many everyday activities.

The only treatment for cataracts is surgery. During the procedure, the cataract is removed through a very small opening using an instrument that utilises ultrasound energy. A new clear lens is then inserted in the same position as the old lens, where it unfolds inside the eye.
